<br />THE ELECTRIC CODE OF THE CITY 0F SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA,
<br />CREATING THE OFFICE OF CITY ELECTRIC~L IN~PECTOR AND
<br />PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES; PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF
<br />k~ECTRICAL PERi,fITS, AND FOR INSPECTIONS ~ND FIXING THE
<br />FEES THEREFOR; REGI~LATINC THE INSTALLATION, ARRANC-EMENT~
<br />ALTERATION~ REPAIR, ~{AINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF
<br />ELECTRICAL ~'~-IRING, FLECTRIC FIXTURES, AND OTHER AV~ECTRIC
<br />APPLIANCES AND EQUIPMEN~ IN T}IE ~ITY OF SANTA ANA; PRO-
<br />VIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THE SA~, AND
<br />REPE_~LING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONflICT
<br />V¢ITH THIS ORDINANCE,
<br />
<br />The City Council of the City of Santa Ana, California, ordains as follows:
<br />
<br />SECTION 1: That a certain document, three copies of which are on file in the
<br />
<br />office of the City Clerk of the City of Santa Ana, kno%~m as the "Standard Electrical Code
<br />
<br />195~ Edition", published in 19~ by the Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, be and the same
<br />
<br />is hereby adopted as the standard electrical code of the City of Santa Aha, creating the
<br />
<br />office of City ~ETectrical Inspector and prescribing his duties; providing for the issuanc,
<br />
<br />of electrical perFAts, and for inspections and fixing the fees therefor; regulating the
<br />
<br />installation, arrangement, alteration, repair, maintenance and operation of electrical
<br />
<br />wiring, electric fixtures, and other electric appliances and equipment in the City of
<br />
<br />Santa Ana, providing a penalty for the vio~ tion of the same, and each and all of the
<br />
<br />regulations, provisions, penalties, conditions and terms of xuch "Standard Electrical Cod,
<br />
<br />Edition, published by Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau", on file in the office of the
<br />
<br />City Clerk, are hereby referred to, adopted and made a part hereof, as if fully set out
<br />
<br />in this ordinance.

<br /> SECTION S: That said Standard Electrical Code, 19~$ Edition, published by the
<br />Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, be and the same is hereby amended as follows:
<br />
<br />That Section 1O~1 is hereby added to said Standard ~,%ectricat Code, reading as
<br />
<br />follows:
<br />
<br />"SECTION 1~:
<br />
<br />METAL DUCT OUTLET AND SIGN REQUIREMENTS.
<br />
<br />A
<br />
<br />All wires installed for the purpose of conducting electricity in or
<br />on any building or structure of any~ature (except in or on single
<br />family and/or single sto~y aud one or two car garages) and in or on
<br />any building or structure of any nature within the Fire Zone, shall
<br />be enclosed in approved metal conduit, metal wire ways, raceways or
<br />gutter or other approved ducts, except as follows:
<br />
<br />1. Radio Wires,
<br />
<br />2. For installation in locations where excessive moisture, fumes or
<br />corrosive vapors exist, or where this type of constE~ction is
<br />impracticable. In these cases permission shall be obtained in advance,
<br />in writing, from the City Inspector.
<br />
<br />3. For installation of open wiring in buildings in process of con-
<br />structure or in installation of open wiring used in lighting of
<br />exhibitions, fairs, celebrations, and similar displays of a temporary
<br />(not more than sixty days~) nature; and
<br />
<br />4. For installation in central and sub-stations when such wires carry
<br />a voltage that renders their installation in conduit impracticable.

<br />
<br />At least one ll0 volt convenience outlet shall be installed in the
<br />kitchen behind the stove location.
<br />

<br />
<br />All letters of signs must be illuminated. All signs must be ten (10)
<br />feet above the sidewalk. All signs running parallel with the ~ilding
<br />must not extend out more than twelve (12) inches from the face of the
<br />building.
<br />
<br />It shall be unlawful to hang o~ to fix in position any electric sign or
<br />sign designed for use as an electric sign, or which may be used as an
<br />electric sign, until such sign has been inspected and approved by the
<br />City Electrical Inspector.
