The roof plate of the flashing shall be not less than eighteen (18) <br />by twenty-one (21) inches in size, and the entire surfaces of all <br />galvanized flashings shall be coated with red lead paint. <br /> <br /> No turns or changes of direction shall be made in the inst~l- <br />atton of any vent pipe or vent flue unless made with the proper <br />fittings manufactured for that purpose, and when in concealed places <br />such turn or change of direction shall not exceed an angle greater <br />than forty-five (45) degrees." <br /> <br />(L) That Section 218 of said Plumbing Code is hereby amended so as to read <br /> <br />as follows: <br /> <br />"Section 218. Gas Water Heaters (where installed). <br /> <br /> Gas wqter heaters shall not be installed in any bathroom, bedroom, <br />sleeping room or clothes closet, nor shall any gas water heater be <br />installed in a garage, or in any room which has communication with a <br />garage by door, window, ventilator or other means. <br /> <br /> Wood or combustible material or any material of less than one hour <br />fire resistive protection as defined by the Uniform Building Code (as <br />now or hereafter adopted as the bMi~d~ng code of the City of Santa Aha) <br />shall be protected by one-eighth (1/$~ inch metal covered fireproof <br />asbestos sheeting if situated within three (3) inches of any insulated <br />gas water heater, or situated within six (6) inches of any uninsulated <br />gas water heater, provided however, that the fire bo~ doors of all gas <br />water heaters shall be situated not closer than six (6) inches to wood <br />or combustible material. <br /> <br /> Air cell insulation is not acceptable for fireproofing for any <br />purpose pertaining to this section." <br /> <br />(M) That Section 219 of said Plumbing Code is hereby amended so as to read <br /> <br />as follows <br /> <br />"Section 219. Gas Water Heaters in Closed Rooms. <br /> <br /> When a gas heater is installed in a closed room, closet or <br />compartment which has no other outlet than the door or entrance to <br />the same, the said room, closet or compartment shall be ventilated by <br />means of an opening six (6) inches by six (6) inches in both floor and <br />ceiling, and such openings shall be directly connected through the <br />floor and roof respectively to the outer air. The floor size of all <br />such closed rooms, closets or compartments shall be not less than six <br />and one-quarter (6~) square feet and shall be constructed to comply <br />with the specifications required for one hour fire resistance as defined <br />in the Uniform Building COde as now or hereafter adopted as the Building <br />Code of the City of Santa Ana. Gas water heaters shall not be installed <br />in any room which is less than twenty-four (24) inches in its least <br />floor dimension. <br /> <br /> A relief valve shall be installed on all hot water heaters the water <br />supply of which is taken from a water service inw hich a check valve is <br />installed." <br /> <br />(N) That paragraphs eight, nine, ten and eleven of Section 220 ef said <br /> <br />plumbing code be, and the same is hereby repealed. <br /> <br />(0) That a new section is hereby added to said Plumbing Code at the end of <br /> <br />Section 220 thereof, to be known as Section 221, which said new section shall read as <br /> <br />follows: <br /> <br />"Section 221. Gas Wall Heaters <br /> <br /> Gas w~ll heaters which are manufactured as an unvented appliance <br />shall be installed in t he following manner. <br /> <br /> On first and ground stories the space directSy under each gas <br />wall heater shall be ventilated through to the space below between the <br />floor Joints and the ground with an opening not less than eight (8) <br />square inches and covered wholly by a galvanized screen. <br /> <br /> Ventilation of gas wall heaters situated in lower stories which <br />have solid floors, or floors which have no space between such floor and <br />the ground, and all upper story s shall be made Shrough ducts to the <br />outer air. The outer termination of such ducts shall be protected by <br />metal cowl ventilators with a ventilating area of not less than sixteen <br />(16) square inches, and so constructed that rain or storm water cannot <br />enter the ducts. <br /> <br /> All ventilators shall be equipped with galvanized wire screen both <br />under the gas wall heater and at the outside termination of the ducts, <br />the perforations of such screen shall be not less than one-eighth <br />square inch, and not more than one-quarter (1/4) square inch in size. <br /> <br /> <br />
