ORDINANCE NO. 1115 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE TO BE KNOWN AS THE UNIFORM ELECTRICAL <br /> CODE OF THE CITY OF SENTA ANA; CREATING THE OFFICE <br /> OF CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR, PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES <br /> AND AUTHORITY: PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF ELECTRICAL <br /> PERMITS AND FOR INSPECTIONS AND FIXING THE FEES THEREOF: <br /> REGULATING THE INSTALLATION, ARRANGEMENT, ALTERATION, <br /> REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF ELECTRIC WIRING, <br /> ELECTRIC FIXTURES, AND OTHER ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND <br /> EQUIPMENT: PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF THE <br /> SAME: REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 1011 AND ALL OTHER <br /> ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH <br /> AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THAT CERTAIN PRINTED ELECTRICAL <br /> CODE PRINTED IN BOOK FORM ENTITLED "UNIFORM ELECTRICAL <br /> CODE" PUBLISHED BY THE PACIFIC COAST ELECTRICAL BUREAU, <br /> THREE COPIES OF WHICH ARE ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE <br /> CITY CLERK FOR USE AND EXAMINATION BY THE PUBLIC. <br /> <br />THE CITY'COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION l: That certain document in book form, entitled "Uniform <br />Electrical Code" (1941 edition) published by the Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, <br />three copies of which are now on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City <br />of Santa Ana is hereby adopted and enacted by the City Council of the City of <br />Santa Ana as the Electrical Code of the City of Santa Ana. <br /> <br /> Provided, however, that sub-section D, Section 8, of said Uniform <br />Electrical Code shall be amended to authorize the chief electrical inspector to <br />adopt and enforce such interim revisions to the 1940 edition of the Natimal <br />Electrical Code as may be adopted during the present war emergency. That certain <br />document in book form, entitled "1940 National Electrical Code", the standard of <br />the National Board of Fire Underwriters for Electric wiring and apparatus, being <br />National Board of Fire Underwriters Pamphlet No. 70, three copies of which are now <br />on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Santa Ana, is also hereby <br />adopted and enacted by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana, insofar as the <br />same is not in conflict with the said'"Uniform Electrical Code"~as herein adopted, <br />or as herein or hereafter e~mended as a supplement to the said Uniform Electrical <br />Code. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2: That ~ new section be added to said Uniform Electrical Code <br />as hereby adopted, which said new section shall be added at the end of Section 16 <br />and shall read as follows and shall be numbered "Section 16~": <br /> <br /> "SECTION 16~: (A) All wires installed for the purpose of <br /> conducting electricity in or on any building or structure of any <br /> nature shall be encloaed in approved metal conduit, metal wire ways, <br /> race ways or gutters or other approved ducts except that in the <br /> following cases, knob and tube or BX installations may be used: <br /> <br /> 1. Radio Antenna or other wires not carrying more than <br /> fifty volts and twenty-five watts. <br /> <br /> 2. In locations where excessive moisture, fumes or <br /> corrosive vapors exist, or where this type of construct- <br /> ion is impracticable. In these cases perm~sion shall be <br /> obtained in advance, in writing, from the City Inspector. <br /> <br /> 3. Open wiring in buildings in process of construction or <br /> in installati6n of o~en wiring used in lighting of <br /> exhibitions, fairs, celebrations, and similar displays of <br /> a temporary (not more than sixty days') nature; <br /> <br /> 4. In central and sub-stations when such wires carry a <br /> voltage that renders their installation in conduit <br /> impracticable. <br /> <br /> 5. In single family or two-family residences, or dwellings <br /> not in Fire Zone No. I of the City of Santa Ana, as <br /> defined and delineated in Ordinance No. 1078, and in such <br /> residences 'entrance cable' may also be used between <br /> Power source and main line switch or multi,breaker. <br /> <br /> <br />
