surfacing now maintained by the pity (normally considered to be 18 feet <br />wide) and the curbs, except that under no conditions will gravel surfac- <br />ing and/or any application of so-called penetrating oil be cons~ered as <br /> <br />surfacing. <br /> sdaL <br /> ~i) In conformance with Sections 14 and 26 of the/~tandard <br /> <br />Specifications and these additional requiremants, contracts for surfac- <br />ing may be let by the ton of surfacing material, by the ton of paving <br />asphalt and mineral aggregate, or by the square foot of area to be sur- <br />faced. Where any contract is awarded on a square foot basis the follow- <br />ing conditions shall be complied with: After the subgrade has been com- <br />p~ted it shall be accurately checked for grade and cross-section and any <br />areas found to be higher than the subgrade elevation, as shown on the <br />plans, shall be brought to the correct elevation. After the rock base <br />has been thoroughly compacted but before any surfacing or prime coat has <br />been applied a scratch templet which is cut to the exact cross-section <br />of the street shall be dragged along the street in such a manner that any <br />hig~ areas will be readily observed and cut to grade. <br /> <br /> (j) All water lines will be installed as prescribed in Ordin- <br />ance No. 1216 and amendments thereto. <br /> <br /> (k) All sewer lines and sewer laterala shall be of vitrified <br />clay sewer pipe. In case the sewer pipe is of the bell and spigot type <br />aufficient oakum or jute, or a rubber ring, shall be pressed into the an- <br />nular space between the body of the pipe and the bell before pouring the <br />joint to prevent any of the joint compound from entering the sewer pipe. <br />The joint shall then be poured with a coal tar compound, commonly known <br />as CPI-2, recommended by the Cl~y Institute of California, Southern Divi- <br />sion, or equal. In case plain end pipe with collars is used, the joint <br />shall be completed as recommended by the Manufacturer and/or to the sat- <br />isfaction of the Sewer Superintendent. Manholes mUst be constructed at <br />intervals of approximately 300 feet. <br /> <br /> (ll All of the improvements shall be constructed according to <br />the lines and grades shown on the plans. <br /> <br /> <br />
