Director <br />Civil Defense <br /> <br />In Re <br />Automatic <br />crossing gates <br />E. let and <br />E. 4th Ste. <br /> <br /> established. <br /> <br /> On recommendation of the Administrator and on motion of Trustee Dahl, <br /> seconded by Jerome and carried, Colonel Homer Sterling was appointed <br /> <br /> Assistant Director of Civil Defense without increase in salary. <br /> # <br />The Administrator stated that the Public Utilities Commission requested <br />that automatic crossing gates be placed at the railroad crossings on <br />East First Street and East Fourth Street. On motion of Trustee Dahl, <br />seconded by McBride and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to <br />advise the Public Utilities Commission that the City is not in favor <br /> <br />of automatic crossing gates at these railroad crossings as previous <br /> <br />installation proved unsatisfactory and no expenditure of funds to be <br /> <br />In Re <br />Request -Install <br />reflectorized warning <br />signs on ~th St. <br /> <br />made at this time. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the request. <br />of the Public Utilities Commission, that reflectorized warning signs be <br />installed at all of the streets crossing Pacific Electric Railway <br /> <br />tracks on Fourth Street was referred to the legislative committee of <br /> <br />the California League of Cities and investigation made to determine <br />whether it was intended to cover highways only and suggesting an amend~i <br /> <br />ment to the State law covering the situation within the limits of the <br /> <br />City. <br /># <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by Dahl and carried, <br /> <br />the City <br /> <br />Council adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED: <br /> <br />Mayor o~//the City of San a A a. <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
