ARTICLE III <br />3.0 ATTENDANCE, WORKDAY, WORKWEEK AND WORK SCHEDULE <br />3.1 Attendance. Employees covered by this Agreement shall be in <br />attendance at their work during hours prescribed by the Fire <br />Chief or his or her designee(s) and shall not absent <br />themselves during prescribed hours without approval of the <br />Fire Chief or his or her designee(s). <br />3.2 Workday. Eight (8) hours of work shall constitute a minimum <br />workday for affected employees assigned to a forty (40) hour <br />workweek schedule. Any member assigned to an eight --hour day, <br />40-hour week schedule may be allowed to work an alternative <br />workweek schedule, which could include a "4--10" or "9-80" <br />forty (40) hour workweek schedule. Twelve (12) hours of work <br />shall constitute a minimum workday for those assigned to the <br />twenty-four (24) hour tour of duty schedule. The Fire Chief <br />shall determine - the number of hours of work that will <br />constitute a minimum workday for affected employees assigned <br />to workweek schedules different from the usual forty (40) hour <br />or fifty-six (56) hour (average) schedules. <br />3.3 Minimum Workweek. The minimum workweek for affected employees <br />shall consist of forty (40) hours of work; provided, however, <br />for those employees assigned to the twenty-four (24) hour tour <br />of duty schedule the minimum workweek shall average fifty-six <br />(56) hours based on the department's standard workweek <br />schedule for fire suppression and rescue personnel. <br />3.4 Special Workweek Schedules. If the Fire Chief determines <br />that, in the best interests of the City, a more flexible <br />workweek schedule is desirable, and the City Manager concurs, <br />the Fire Chief may prepare rules and procedures for <br />implementing a workweek schedule or schedules different from <br />the usual forty (40) hour or fifty-six (56) hour schedule. <br />Prior to implementing such a schedule or schedules, the City <br />shall meet and confer with the Association regarding the <br />impact of the rules, procedures and schedules on members of <br />the Association. <br />5 <br />
