Hunter. <br /># <br /> <br />Inc. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the recommen <br />etlon of the Planning Commission was approved and variance granted to <br /> <br />Santana Homes, Inc. to permit the placing of three feature signs in <br />front of model homes in Tract No. 1608 subject to the conditions that <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communications <br />Chief of Police; <br />Civil Serv. Board <br /> <br />the signs shall not exceed 81xlO' in size and that said signs shall be <br /> <br />removed after, a period of one year from date of installation. <br /># <br /> <br />Copy of communication was read from the Civil Service Board addressed <br />to the Chief of Police regarding complaint receive(l with reference to <br />Clarence Johnson, Franklin Carter, D.G.Gross and H.H.Ety, members of <br />the Police Department, engaging in work outside of Civil SerVice which <br /> <br />is competitive and detrimental to the occupational and business <br /> <br />interests of local citizens and taxpayers. Communications were read <br /> <br />from George Novicoff, Market Director, Mayfair Markets, requesting that!i <br />Clarence Johnson be granted permission, during his off-duty hours, to <br />perform his duties as an officer in safeguarding the store against hold~ <br /> <br />up, etc., and from the Chief of Police stating that formal request has <br /> <br />been made'by Clarence Johnson to enter into casual employment along <br /> <br />police duty 'lines with Mayfair Markets. Chief Hershey stated that <br /> <br />officers H.H.Ely and D.G.Gross are not working on their off-duty hours <br /> <br />and suggested that written permission be secured from the Civil Service~ <br />Board to assign officers to various duties, on their off-duty hours, <br />such as public dances and for special events of various nature when <br /> <br />police protection is necessary, on motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded <br />by Jero~ and carried, the communications were received and filed. <br /> <br />It was moved by Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, that a <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communications <br />Guy's Wrecking Yard <br /> <br />communication be directed to the Civil Service Board approving the <br />method as suggested by the Chief of Police and requesting that steps be <br />taken to adopt a uniform procedure for this type of work, particularly <br />in the Police Department. <br /> <br />Communications were read from John Moyer Company, 115 East Dyer Road <br /> <br />and Chas. A. Reed, 2731 South Main Street, reference the appearance of <br /> <br />Guyls Wrecking Yard, 2631 South Main Street. On motion of Trustee <br /> <br />Jerome~ seconded by McBride and carried, the Clerk was instructed to <br /> <br />forward copies of letters of John Moyer Company and Chas. A. Reed to <br /> <br />Guy's Wrecking Yard, and also advise John Moyer Company and Chas. A. <br /> <br />Reed that the Council has under consideration an Ordinance which would <br /> <br />In Re <br />Request <br />American Legion <br />Post No. 131 <br /> <br />provid~e that' solid fences be erected around Junk yards. <br /># <br />On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by McBride and carried, the.reqUest <br />of the American Legion Post 131 for a gift of $250.00 to help defray the! <br /> <br />Post's expenses at the State Convention at Long Beach from July 28 to <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communication <br />Fifth Institute of <br />Transportation and <br />Traffic Engr. Conference <br /> <br />August 2, 1953, was denied. <br /># <br /> <br />Communication was read from the Division of Highways stating that the <br />Fifth Institute of Transportation and Traffic Engineering Conference on <br />Street and Highway Problems will be presented at Berkeley on February <br /> <br /> <br />
