Ibarra, Evelyn
From: Lucy <
Sent: Monday, October 28, 2024 2:50 PM
To: eComment
Cc: Nunez, Alvaro
Subject: City Council Special Meeting for 10/28/24 -Support for Councilmember Johnathan
Hernandez
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear City Manager Mr. Nunez,
I am writing to express my support for Councilmember Johnathan Hernandez, who, despite the recent investigation
findings, has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to our community through his city council office and actions as
a servant leader. While his past decisions may have diverged from organizational protocol and resulted in a infraction, it
is important to consider his history of dedication to our community and the intent behind his actions.
Throughout his tenure, Councilmember Hernandez has consistently prioritized the needs of the black and brown
community over his own, demonstrating integrity and care in every decision. This commitment is reflected in initiatives
that have benefited both the black and brown community such as establishing August as Chicano Heritage Month,
supporting the creation of street toppers honoring community leaders such as Helen M. Shipp, Josephine "Chepa"
Andrade and more recently Virginia and William Guzman, he garnered support to fund mural restorations which assisted
in renovating the 33 year old RAZA mural, and championed cultural celebrations such as Juneteenth and the Chicano
Festival. These acts are a true mark of a servant leader who prioritizes the well-being and development of others.
While I understand the importance of upholding organizational guidelines, it is also crucial to view this incident within
the broader context of his service. His dedication to spotlighting the black and brown contributions in our community
cannot be overshadowed by this recent event. I encourage you to consider the positive impact he has made when
evaluating any further actions.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I hope you will view Councilmember Hernandez with the same
appreciation for his service that so many in our community share.
Sincerely,
Lucinda Solorzano
Community Volunteer
Artesia Pilar Neighborhood Association
(
