Whereas in the past, the City worked in concert with neighborhood associations and all ethnic groups. With
the new process ushered by the Mayor, it takes time and knowledge that the neighborhoods do not have at
times.
It takes more paperwork and often there are last minute changes and modifications that makes it difficult for
people who work for a living to follow up. At times depending on the staff, the way a City Staff respond may
set off questions like who is in charge or, but you said we could and now who changed it and what????
There is often a lot of plausible deniability.
Often, we need the Councilman and his staff to explain things to all sides.
These actions on behalf of the community and organizations are misunderstood and mischaracterization.

The Chicano Heritage Festival, Juneteenth, Black History Parade, Chinatown Apology, The Memorial to Early
Chinese Immigrants and Indigenous Peoples Day has roots in activities in Councilman Hernandez’s Ward that
goes back decades.
The planning process involve many leaders, organizations, and community relationships that Councilman
Hernandez was carrying into those meetings with staff on our behalf.
The planning process was cordial and working with staff was a during Mayor Sarmiento’s term.
Then, procedures, processes and multiple approvals were changed and many of us did not know why and
were caught off guard as we were still working on those projects.
Often in trying to find out what happened, we were told contradictory reasons.
Our representative should have a seat at the table to explain our concerns and to help resolve issues together
with staff.

I would like to see the redacted portions of the case made public.

I am reminding people who Johnathan is and not who he is portrayed to be. He is a person works for the
community.
He speaks truth power.

It would be to the interest of the entire city for all parties to drop this baloney, shut up, and don't get in a
ruffle again.

Alan Woo

; cou
2
