Ibarra, Evelyn
From:Alan Woo <alanwoo@roadrunner.com>
Sent:Monday,
To:eComment
Cc:Nunez, Alvaro
Subject:City Council Special Meeting for 10/28/24 -Support for Councilmember Johnathan
Hernandez and recommendation to end the war
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.

Councilman Johnathan Ryan Hernandez faces the Santa Ana Police Associa?on tonight Oct 28 at 5:00 PM at a Special
City Council mee?ng.
The accusa?on centers on his overly involvement in helping the community and disenfranchised. Consistent with his
work before he became a Councilman, he has been working to build a rose garden in concrete and to invest and educate
our youth rather than build prisons.

As Councilman, he was asked by residents of La Placinta Cinco to address the problems.
With residents, he organized mee?ngs and brought police oļ¬cers to listen to the resident and helped them develop
solu?ons. He showed them how to use the My Santa Ana app to report crimes and problems.
He worked with the Artesia Pillar Neighborhood Associa?on to bring back ac?vi?es and renova?ons to El Salvador Park
and to build more parks. The community asked him.
He has commi?ed no crime. He served the community with his heart and love.
It is not a ba?le for power for he seeks none. He is empowered by the community.

Johnathan done nothing wrong except to serve his Council Ward. In the past, the underserved neighborhoods
had to go to war with the City to get streetlights and paved sidewalks.
Under Mayor Sarmiento, relationships and service were cordial and collegiate. Currently, there is a different
leadership style that is more abrasive.
This is still a democracy, and these representatives are still public servants.
There are many sides to this story. Consistent with his values, when the Police Association wanted to finance
his campaign, Johnathan politely and firmly said" No, thank you. I don't want your money. I don't need your
money. Use your money to buy influence elsewhere. Leave this race alone. I have nothing negative to say
about my opponent. I respect him. We are running for different reason. Don't set up a political action
committee to go after him or me. Leave us alone so the voters can decide. Just stay out. "

This conflict has been festering on all sides. Misinformation abounds. It is like the war in the Middle East that
never ends. There is no winner. We all lose.
After being away from Council meetings for a long while, I was in the City Council Chambers when an
argument erupted. I was shocked.
It was a poor behavior on all sides. It is true that the former City Manager and Police Chief was respected and
loved. Their departure was sudden and questionable. The community was concerned, and we brought it to the
attention of our representatives.

1
