<br /> request of The Merle Co~poration for thirty-five foot driveway
<br /> entrances at the Beany D~ive-In, 1~57 South Main Street, was denied.

<br /> Communication was read from the President of the Sixteenth Street
<br />Association stating that at meeting held July 2nd, 1953, a Resolution
<br />was unanimously passed stating that the property owners concerned
<br />accept the terms and conditions as set out in the variance application
<br />-submitted by Samuel J.and Ma~y Strong and Helen B. Smith. On motion
<br />of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication
<br />was received and filed.

<br /> On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
<br /> request of Howard B. Hillman for permission to conduct a public dance
<br /> at the American Legion Hall, August l, 1953, until 1:00 A.M., was
<br /> granted.
<br />
<br />-Communication was read from the President, Santa Ana P.T.A. Council,
<br />stating that the Association passed a Resolution requesting that a
<br />member of the Police Department be assigned, on a part time or full
<br />time basis, to the position as a safety coordinator for the schools.
<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the
<br />matter was referred to the City Manager and Chief of Police for
<br />recommendation at the next meeting.

<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Larsen and carried, the
<br />application of Duane Earl Breeding to drive taxicabs, was received
<br />and permit gu"anted.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Larsen and carried, the
<br />notifications of the State Bosmd of Equalization of alcoholic beverage
<br />applications made by Emiliano R. and Esther ~. Rico, 1305 West Fourth
<br />Street, Alfred J. Gutierrez, 312 East Fourth Street, Paul V. McCoy
<br />Enterprises, Inc., 315 North Sycamore Street and Takeo Tanizawa and
<br />Ralph Meyer, 318 West Fourth Street, were received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Gounoilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
<br />claim of Jerold Rumbaugh, in the sum of $10,000.00, for alleged
<br />
<br /> injuries sustained by reason of the negligent condition of a low pipe
<br />railing on the Birch Street side of Birch Park, approximately forty
<br />feet south of the drinking fountain, was referred to the City Attorne~
<br />and Insurance Carrier.
<br />
<br />On recommendation of the Manager and on motion of Councilman Jerome,
<br />seconded by Dahl and carried, the City Engineer was instructed to
<br />prepare a Resolution establishing a white loading zone at 711 West
<br />17th Street in accordance with request of Howard D. Baker, D.D.S.
<br />The City Manager recommended that the request of George C. Dick,
<br />1657~ E. First Street, that green zones be established at 1657 and
<br />1661 E. First Street be denied due to the fact that off-street parkin
<br />
