Ogden Markel <br /> stated his reasons for opposing the reclassification of the property <br /> and was of the opinion that this is spot-zoning. Gustave Maler, <br /> <br />1616 South Sycamore Street stated he agreed with N~. Markel's object- <br />ions. Attorney M.S.Bernard, on behalf of E.C.Missildine, said the <br />proposed development would be an orderly expansion of a potentially <br />commercial area. The Chairman asked if the applicant would object <br />to a variance on the property in question. Attorney Bernard stated <br />that a variance would be a hind~anoe until the area develops as a <br />business district. It was moved by Councilman Dahl that the applican~ <br />be granted a zone chan~e. Motion lost for want of a second. <br />Councilman Jerome stated he would prefer ~ wait until the Plannin~ <br />Commission submitted their recommendations. It was moved by Council-i! <br />man Dahl, seconded by Larsen and .car. tied that the City Attorney prepar~ <br />an ordinance reclassifying Lots 27 to 32 inclusive in Block "A" and <br />Lots ~8 to 31 inclusive in Block "B", Tract No. 531, facing Sycamore <br />Street, from the present classification to C-2 District. It was <br />moved by Councilman Dahl that the City Attorney prepare an Ordinance <br />to reclassify Lots 32 to 35 inclusive in Block "Bm, Tract No. 531, <br />facing Broadway from R-1 District to C-2 District, subject to the <br />granting of a ten foot strip to the City along the easterly boundary <br />of Broadway and the westerly boundary of the property. Motion lost <br />for want of a second. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by <br />McBride and carried, the request that Lots 32, 33, 34 and 35, in Blockl <br />"B", Tract No. 531, facin~ Broadway, be reclassified from R-1 to <br />District,was denied. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the <br />reading of the Ordinance was waived. On motion of Councilman Jerome, <br />seconded by Dahl and carried, the following Ordinance entitled: <br /> <br /> "Ordinance amending Chapter 4 of Article VII <br /> of Santa Ana Municipal Code, correcting charges <br /> for the installation of water.service and moving <br /> of meters, p~ohibiting cross connections and <br /> creating service charge" <br /> <br />was considered, designated Ordinance No. NS-9 and passed by the follow- <br /> <br />ing vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes, <br /> <br />Councilmen <br /> <br />Noes, Councilmen <br />Absent, Councilmen <br /> <br />William Jerome, J.L.McBride, <br />Thomas F. Chandler. <br />None <br />None <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br />Mayor was authorized to sign escrow instructions from Nelle Marie <br />Remsberg, Helen L. Adams and Katherine E. Remsberg, for an easement <br />deed on property described as the southerly ten fee~ of the easterly <br />140.5 feet of Lot 14, Block "B", Wiley Addition, being property at the <br /> <br />northeast corner of Seventeenth and North Main Streets. <br /># <br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br />granted to John C. Helton to use the duplex at 1332 South Bristol <br /> <br /> <br />
