Chandler. <br />None <br /> <br />This being the date set for hearing on proposed Library site, Attorney <br />Mark Soden, representing a number of persons living in the a~ea betwee~ <br />6th and 8th and Ross and Van Ness stated that it was his understanding <br /> <br />Each member of the City Council having received copies of the Minutes <br />of October 5th and 13th, 1953, reading of the Minutes was dispensed <br />with and approved on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Larsen <br />and carried, with the exception of Item 21 on page 475, Minutes of <br />October 5th, wherein the date of the Joint meeting of the Council and <br />Planning 0ommission should have read "November 30, 1953#. <br /> # <br /> <br />In Re <br />Hearing <br />Proposed <br />Library Site <br /> <br />that the purpose of the heaping was to get public reaction and he did <br /> <br />not believe that the City was financially able to purchase the prop- <br /> <br />ertles in the area at this time, and suggested that the problem be <br />submitted to the voters of the City. It was mentioned that the <br /> <br />Council merely wished to designate the area as a proposed Library site; <br />John Dailey, owner of sixteen parcels of property between Sixth and <br /> <br />Eighth and Flower and Shelton Streets, adjacent to the present <br /> <br />Community Center, suggested that the City acquire the parcels for <br /> <br />In Re <br />Hearing <br />Petitions to close <br />North Flower St. at <br />Santa Aha Blvd. <br /> <br />the Library site. M.R.B~inkerhoff and Robert Webb stated that the <br /> <br />Chamber of Commerce had recommended that the City investigate the areai <br />adjacent to the present County civic center development for City use. <br />L.G.B~aakman, 616 North Ross; J.R.Coffin, 631 North Patton; Mrs. Stella <br />Groff, 508 West 8th Street and Mrs. Sadie W. Wray, 60~ North Ross <br />Street, property owners, stated they would llke to know definitely if <br />and when the City intends to p~chase the properties in the proposed <br />area. RoBert Larsen, a member of the Library Board requested that <br />the matter be ~'eferred to the Board to study a specific site and the <br />required a~ea. It was moved by Councilman Dahl, seconded by Larsen <br />and carried, that the question of the area so far as the civic center <br />is concerned be referred to the Council as a whole and the matter of <br />the Library site be referred to the Library Board for study and a <br />report not later than Deoembe~ 7th, 1953. <br /> <br />This being the date set for hearing in regard to the closing of North <br />Flower Street at both sides of its intersection with Santa Ana <br />Boulevard, Attorney Jack Rlmel, representing various property owners, <br /> <br />requested that the Clerk read the petitionswhich were presented to thel <br />Council at a previous meeting. Arthu~ B~adley, 2321 North Park <br />Boulevard; J.P.Colburn, 2022 North Flower; Joe Daniger, 902 Klviera <br />D~ive and Lee R. Bailey, 2619 North FLower, and others, gave their <br />particular reasons why they felt North Flower Street should be closed <br /> <br />and barricaded. Revenend F. W. Nled~inghaus, 205 West 20th Street, <br />stated it was the moral responsibility of the Council to close the <br /> <br />intersection to prevent further accidents and suggested that the stree' <br /> <br />Leeelng, 2117 North Flower Street, <br /> <br />in question be barricaded, at least temporarily.
