<br />CITY COUNCIL 5 FEBRUARY 18, 2025 <br />action for Item No. 7, with the exception of Item No. 7.5, as part of the Consent <br />Calendar, seconded by Mayor Amezcua. <br /> <br />The motion carried, 7-0, by the following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />NOES: <br />ABSTAIN: <br />ABSENT: <br />COUNCILMEMBER BACERRA, COUNCILMEMBER <br />HERNANDEZ, COUNCILMEMBER LOPEZ, <br />COUNCILMEMBER PENALOZA, COUNCILMEMBER PHAN, <br />MAYOR PRO TEM VAZQUEZ, MAYOR AMEZCUA <br />NONE <br />NONE <br />NONE <br />Status: 7 – 0 – Pass <br /> <br />MINUTES: Councilmember Penaloza expressed his opposition to the appointment <br />of Amalia Mejia to the Police Oversight Commission. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hernandez shared his support for Amalia Mejia and highlighted her <br />education and experience. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lopez shared her support for the appointment of Am alia Mejia and <br />her concerns about commissioners being singled out by Members of the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Vazquez expressed his support for Amalia Mejia and highlighted <br />her education and experience. <br /> <br />MOTION: Councilmember Hernandez moved to approve Item No. 7.5, the <br />appointment of Amalia Mejia to the Police Oversight Commission , seconded <br />by Councilmember Lopez. <br /> <br />The motion failed, 4-3, by the following roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br /> <br />NOES: <br /> <br />ABSTAIN: <br />ABSENT: <br />COUNCILMEMBER HERNANDEZ, COUNCILMEMBER <br />LOPEZ, COUNCILMEMBER PHAN, MAYOR PRO TEM <br />VAZQUEZ <br />COUNCILMEMBER BACERRA, COUNCILMEMBER <br />PENALOZA, MAYOR AMEZCUA <br />NONE <br />NONE <br />Status: 4 – 3 – failed <br /> <br />City Clerk Jennifer L. Hall administered the Oaths of Office to the commissioners <br />who were present. <br /> <br />City Clerk Hall clarified that the vote to approve the appointment of Amalia Mejia <br />failed as it required five affirmative vote to pass in accordance with the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code. <br />
