Gardell <br />!~etux <br /> <br />~iIn Re <br />!Variance <br /> [da May Murphy <br /> <br />Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending <br />that a variance be granted H.G.Gooder to permit the use of property <br />at the southeast corner of Birch Street and Wilshire Avenue for con- <br />struction of a two-bedroom house with single attached garage, and <br />from the Department of Public Works that replacement of 15 lineal feet <br /> <br />of sidewalk on Wilshire Avenue <br />property to bring it up to the <br />Councilman Jerome, seconded by <br />of tke Planning Commission was <br />to the improvements as imposed <br /> <br />is needed in front of or along side the <br />present City standards. On motion of <br />Larsen and carried, the recommendation <br />approved and variance granted, subject <br />by the Director of Public Works. <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Larsen, seconded by Jerome and carried, the <br /> recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> granted to Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce to permit the use of property <br /> at the southwest corner of Eighth and Garnsey Streets, for erection of <br /> an office building, subject to the condition that set-backs, establish- <br /> <br /> ed by the County buildings in the new Civic Center, be complied with. <br /> # <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Lateen, seconded by McBride and carried, the <br /> recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> granted to James B. Tucker Jr. to permit the use of property at the <br /> northwest corner of Eighth and Birch Streets for construction of a <br /> building for professional offices and other offices not involving sale <br /> of merchandise, subject to the condition that off-street parking be <br /> provided, not to exceed 150 feet away, for approximately thirty cars, <br /> and to the condition that l0 feet be substituted for the 5 foot set- <br /> back on the north side of Eighth Street. Councilman Dahl stated he <br /> <br /> is abstaining from voting as he has an interest in the property. <br /> . <br /> Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending denial <br /> of variance application of Joseph Franklin King to permit the con- <br /> struction of two duplex buildings on two lots situated at the north- <br /> west corner of Evergreen Street and St. Andrew Place, one of the lots <br /> in question being zoned R-2, and the other R-1. On motion of <br /> Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the recommendation <br /> <br /> of the Planning Commission was approved and variance denied. <br /> ,, <br />Communication was re~d from the Planning Commission recommending <br />denial of variance application of Raymond H. and Edythe Ga~dell to <br />construct two duplex buildings on property located at Ill5 North Baker <br />Street. R.H.Gardell, 1418 W. 9th Street,requested permission to read <br />communication from Edythe Gardell stating that duplexes adjoin the <br />property on the north. Carolyn Taylor, ll21 North Baker Street; <br />L.W.Selindl, 1109 North Baker Street; Mrs. L.N.Sherrard, 1202 West <br />Washington Avenue and David Brown, 1307 North Bristol Street stated <br /> <br />their reasons for objecting to duplexes in a single family area. On <br /> <br />motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br />denied. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman McBride, seconded by Larsen and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance <br /> <br /> <br />
