RESOLUTION 73-37 <br /> <br />SPECIAL RESOLUTION COMMENDING FORMER <br />MAYOR LORIN GRISET <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lorin Griset has been an active, progressive, <br />dedicated member of the Santa Ana City Council since he was <br />elected to this office on April 4, 1967; and <br /> <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lorin Griset was elected by his fellow Councilmen <br />as Mayor of the City of Santa Ana on April 7, 1969; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lorin Griset has served his post as Mayor of the <br />City of Santa Ana with ability, vigor, honor and pride continu- <br />ously thereafter until he resigned this high office on April 2, <br />1973, in order to honor another of his fellow Councilmen; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, his entire tenure with the City of Santa Ana has <br />been characterized by his integrity, and as a champion of the <br />rights of all men; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lorin Griset has held with steadfastness and courage <br />his conviction of the dignity of man and his God-given right to <br />stand among his peers and before his Creator as an equal; and <br /> <br /> WHEREA~ all of Lorin Griset's actions have been motivated <br />by his love of his fellow man and his abiding faith in God, and <br />by his conviction that God would reveal to him the way if only he <br />would stand quietly and listen for his word; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, Lorin Griset has by following his principles, love <br />of God and his fellow man, maintained at all times willingness to <br />listen to all who came before him whether or not they had warm <br />words of praise or unjustifiable words of scorn, whether they sup- <br />ported his programs or spoke forcefully against them; and <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, an impressive number of actions were taken during <br />the course of his years as a Councilman and as Mayor; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, among the many actions that the Council took during <br />his administration as Mayor, several stand out as hallmarks of <br />his leadership and farsightedness; among these significant events <br />of his tenure are: <br /> <br />(1) The creation of the City of Santa Ana Housing <br /> Authority. <br /> <br />(2) The establishment of the City of Santa Ana <br /> Redevelopment Agency. <br /> <br />(3) City participation in public transportation. <br /> <br />(4) The formation of the City of Santa Ana Human <br /> Relations Commission. <br /> <br />(5) The creation of the Cultural Heritage Committee. <br /> <br />(6) <br /> <br />The passage of an ordinance increasing residential <br />development fees to assist the City in park acquisi- <br />tion and development. <br /> <br />- 1 - <br /> <br /> <br />
