<br />Con~munication was read from Ernest Giese requesting an extension of one year on the
<br />
<br />approval of Tentative Tract No. 2025 located at McFadden and Halladay Streets, and
<br />
<br />on motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by Markel and carried, an extension of
<br />
<br />time until February 20th, 1956 was granted.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from the Salvation Army requesting permission to place
<br />
<br />placards on the light standards in the business district during the Salvage Week
<br />Campaign, May 14th to 19th inclusive. On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by
<br />Heinly and carried, the request was denied and the Clerk di'rected to notify the
<br />Salvation Army that the Council has established a policy prohibiting the placing ofi
<br />.p. lacards on light standards.

<br />On motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Markel and carried, the plans and spec-
<br />
<br />ifications for the construction of the Corporation Yard to be located on Delhi Road
<br />
<br />were approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for bids to be
<br />opened February 20th, 1956.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Jerome and carried, the Purchasing Agent
<br />
<br />was authorized to advertise for bids for cast iron pipe as follows: 50,000' of 6",
<br />lO, O00' of 8" and 20,000' of 12"; bids to be opened February 20th, 1956.
<br />
<br />The Manager requested authority for the-Purchasing Agent to advertise for bids for
<br />the furnishing of 2263' of chain lird~ fence complete ~with and including posts at
<br />
<br />the Corporation Yard site on Delhi Road. On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded
<br />
<br />by Dahl and carried~ the request was approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized
<br />
<br />to advertise for bids to be opened February 2Oth, 1956.
<br />
<br />On motion of Councilman Jerome, seconded by D~ and carried, the written recommend-
<br />
<br />ation of the Manager, dated January 27, 1956, setting forth salary step increases
<br />
<br />for seven employees, effective February 1st, 1956, was received, filed and approved.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending denial of variance
<br />
<br />application of Melvin and Doris Maxwell for permission to use the property at the
<br />
<br />southwest corner of Flower and Anahurst Stree.ts, for a shallow, instructional-type
<br />
<br />swimming pool, dressing rooms, a small office and the necessary equipment for the
<br />
<br />operation of a swimming pool. The applicant presented a petition signed by thirty
<br />
<br />property owners stating that the instructional pool would be benefidial and also
<br />
<br />submitted a map showing the area ar~oa motion of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Heinly
<br />
<br />and carried, the petition and map were received and filed. Three persons gave thei
<br />
<br />reasons why they favored the swimming pool. The Council having unanimously waived
<br />the reading of the Resolution, on motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel
<br />
<br />and carried, the following Resolution entitled:

<br />"Resolution No. 56-30 granting a Variance on Application No.
<br />731 where the Planning Con~aission recon~nended denial"
<br />
