CITY OF SAI~A ANA <br /> <br />KEY PUNCH OPERATOR <br /> <br />~EFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision, operates alpha-numeric and numeric card punch, card verifying <br />and key-to-tape encoding machines; classifies and codes data; sorts and files <br />tabulating cards and magnetic tapes; and performs rela~ed clerical work as required. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Key punches a wide variety of data from coded and uncoded documents to tabulating <br />cards or magnetic tapes in accordance to predetermined procedures and formats; <br />operates a card verifying machine in checking correctness of punched data and <br />repunches incorrect cards; classifies and codes data to be processed; sorts and <br />files records, cards and tapes; compiles data summaries and statistical zeports; <br />occasionally operates sorter, collator and interpreter; may wire machine control <br />boards; may act as section leader in relief or training capacity. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />This is specialized clerical work of a largely repetitive nature involving the <br />rapid and accurate operation of alpha-numeric and numeric card punch and verifying <br />machines and key-to-tape encoding machines. Technical assistance and supervision <br />is readily available and work is reviewed as to accuracy and amount of production <br />through the verifying machine and other cor=ol processes. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM qUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Graduation from high school; some experience in operating a key punch machine or <br />completion of a recognized training course in key punch operation; or any equivalent <br />combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, <br />abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Some knowledge of: the operation of alpha-numeric keypunches and verifiers, sorters <br />collators and related machines; general clerical procedures including coding, sortin <br />filing and comparing. Ability to: key punch from average copy at the specified <br />rate of speed and accuracy; make comparisons and arithmetical calculations rapidly <br />and accurately; understand and follow oral and written instructions; work coopera- <br />tively with others. <br /> <br /> <br />
