CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />SENIOR KEY PUNCH OPERATOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision~ supervises and participates in the performance of mis- <br />cellaneous clerical tasks related to machine processes and in the operation of <br />key verifiers and numeric or alphabetic printing key punch and key-to-tape encoding <br />machines. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Plans, lays out, schedules~ assigns and supervises the work of key punch operators; <br />trains new operators and assists experienced operators with problems arising from <br />work in progress; operates a verifier machine in checking correctness of punched <br />data and repunches incorrect cards; establishes and maintains various data controls <br />necessary fo~ balancing and audit purposes; identifies and resolves discrepancies <br />arising in input data within limits of prescribed procedures and specific job know- <br />ledge; keeps records and prepares routine reports; operates card. sorting, collating <br />and interpreting machines; may participate in simple progran~ning and Computer opera- <br />tion activities in a training capacity; and performs related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />The duties of this class are distinguished from those of the Key Punch Operator <br />class in that the employee exercises limited supervision and training responsibilities <br />and performs pre-audit function. <br /> <br />RECOb~E~)ED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Graduation from high school and three years' exper~nce in the operation of key <br />punch machines and key verifiers or any equivalent combination of training and <br />experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of: the operation of key punch, key verifying, card sorting, <br />collating and interpreter machines. Knowledge of: the basic principles and tech- <br />niques of supervision. Ability to: perform complex clerical work; make arithmetical <br />computations; assemble and organize data and prepare reports from such data; plan, <br />organize and supervise the work of other clerical employees in a manner effecting <br />full performance and high morale; make decisions recognizing established precedents, <br />practices and systems and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems. <br />Skill in: the operation of key punch, key verifiers, card sorting, collating and <br />interpreter machines. <br /> <br /> <br />
