3/88 DUE TO POOR CONDITION ORIGINAL DESTROYED <br /> <br />CITY OF SANTA AIWA <br /> <br />DATA PROCESSING MANAGER <br /> <br />p~FINITION <br /> <br />Under general direction, manages the municipal data processing function and exercises <br />technical responsibility for its efficient operation. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Flans, organizes and controls over-all activities of EDP including systems analysis, <br />programming and computer operation activities through managing subordinates or by <br />direct supervision; personally handles major personnel, administrative and data <br />processing problems; working closely with other City officials, analyzes and reviews <br />existing procedures and provides the technical knowledge for the conversion of manual <br />procedures to data processing system applications and the development of integrated <br />information systems; supervises and assists in the training of data processing per- <br />sonnel; performs related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />Under the general direction of the Director of Finance, the employee in this class <br />is responsible for the effective performance of the personnel and equipment in the <br />City's data processing unit. This is responsible technical and administrative work <br />requiring close coordination and cooperation with other supervisors, division heads <br />and department heads. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Four years of college including or supplemented by successful completion of course <br />work in electronic data processing, public or business administration and three <br />years' experience in EDP including one year supervisory experience in EDP operations <br />or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the follow- <br />ing knowledge, abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Thorough knowledge of: principles and techniques of systems development and program <br />planning, machine scheduling, card and form design and control requirements; operat- <br />ing principles, methods, practices and limitations of electronic data processing <br />computers and peripheral equipment. Considerable knowledge of:COBOL, bloc~ dia- <br />gramming, flow charting and procedural report presentations; operator and machine <br />production rates and of effective supervisory techniques. Ability to: analyze <br />systdms, develop data processing programs and modify them for efficient operation; <br />analyze co~mplex data processing problems and institute effective programming pro- <br />cedures; effectively manage the complete operation ofan EDP facility; establish <br />and maintain effective working relations with outlying department heads, adminis- <br />trative officials and employees. <br /> <br /> <br />
