CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />ASSISTANT PROGRAMMER ANALYST <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under supervision, defines simple systems and develops and prepares machine logic <br />flow charts and translates them into computer programs, for municipal accounting <br />and record-keeping activities. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Analyzes problems outlined by systems and programmer analysts in terms of detailed <br />equipment requirements and capabilities; designs detailed machine logic flow chart- <br />ing; verifies program logic by preparing test data for trial runs; tests and debugs <br />programs; prepares instruction sheets to guide computer operations during production <br />runs; evaluates and modifies existing programs to take into account changes in <br />systems requirements of equipment configursCions; translates coded machine instruc- <br />tions; may assist in determining the causes of computer operation malfunctions; <br />may confer with technical p~sonnel in systems analysis and application planning; <br />may perform simple systems analysis under close supervision in a training capacity; <br />performs related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATUILES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />Under the supervision of a systems and progrmmner analyst defines systems and per- <br />forms experienced, technical prograraning duties which are reviewed in progress and <br />upon completion by inspection of computer output for adequacy and correctness. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM qUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Graduation from high school supplemented by successful completion of formal train- <br />ing in computer progra~mning and one year's experience in computer progran~ning includ- <br />ing the use of COBOL or any equivalent combination of training and experience which <br />provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Knowledge of: block diagramming, flow charting, COBOL, procedural report presen- <br />tation; disk operating systems, and magnetic tape applications; basic accounting <br />and record-keeping practices. Some knowledge of: systems analysis. Ability to: <br />design recording and reporting forms to meet operating requirements and to establish <br />and maintain effective working relationships with others. <br /> <br /> <br />
