3/88 DUE ~ P~R CO~ITION ORIGIN~ DESTROYED <br /> <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under administrative direction, directs, and coordinates the administrative and <br />technical functions of a large equipment maintenance center engaged in the replace- <br />m~nt, maintenance, servicing and repair of automotive, construction and related <br />equipment. <br /> <br />~,XAMPLES OF,DUTIES <br /> <br />Plans, directs, controls and coordinates the operations of repairing and maintain- <br />ing a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment; supervises equip- <br />ment preventive maintenance programs; establishes operating policies, regulations <br />and procedures, includin~ work standards and safety rules; confers with and advises <br />subordinate supervisory and lead personnel on day-to-day operations and probl<.ms; <br />supervises and participates in the selection, placement, training and evaluation of <br />department personnel; supervises and participates in a continuous program of ..afcty <br />instruction and insures safety regulations are strictly observed and enforced; <br />assists other departments and divisions in selecting and/or modifying equipment to <br />suit peculiar requirements; designs and supervises the construction or modifications <br />of special equipment to meet specific needs; makes regular and special reports <br />including evaluation of equipment performance to the City Manager; administers a <br />complete service and cost record for each separate unit of equipment and a perpetual <br />control system on all parts and materials used in the repair and maintenance of <br />motorized equipment; recommends an equipment replacement program and prepares <br />specifications for the purchase of equipment and parts; super~,ises the general <br />maintenance of the central repair facilities and maintains the security and order <br />of the Corporation Yard; prepares annual budget estimates and requests and maintains <br />budgetary controls performs related work as required. <br /> <br />D_I. STINGUISUING FEATURES OF TUE CLASS <br /> <br />Reporting directly to the City Manager,.an employee in this class is responsible <br />for directing thc operations of the central garage which includes the repair and <br />maintenance of general or special purpose automotive and heavy-duty construction <br />equipment, prepares a budget and performs other duties required of a department <br />head. <br /> <br />RS.COMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Gradnation from high school and five years of increasingly responsible experience <br />supervising or administering the operations, 'repair and maintenance of a fleet of <br />motorized and mechanical eqoipment, or any equivalent combination of training and <br />experience which provides the following know]edge, skills and abilities: <br /> <br />Exten~:~ve know]edge of: tile principles and practices of administration as applied <br />to a large fleet of motorized mechanical equipment, their dcsigu, maintcoance and <br />repair. Thorough knowledge of: preventive maintenance principles; the occupations] <br />hazards and safety preceutions of the trade. Knowledge of: office and financial <br />record-keeping practices as they pertain to a garage. Ability to: p]an, organize <br />and supervise the work of a varied staff of supervisory, skilled and semi-skilled <br />tradesmen and office employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high <br />more]e; write technics] reports and handle complaints, personnel problems and <br />administrative questions iu an efficient and capable manner; organize shop faciliL~ : <br />to meet fluctoating and u~usual demands; prepare and interpret specifications for <br />tho purchase of cqnipment; establish and maintain effective working relatSonships <br /> <br />with other City departments and divisions. <br /> <br /> <br />
