<br />On motion of Counc~lm~n Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, it W~s recnmmended
<br />to the P]~ing Ca-mission that the Civic Center area be extended to include Van
<br />Ness Avenue between Sixth and Eighth Streets, and the easterly one-half of the
<br />block bounded by Van Ness Avenue, Sixth, Parton and Eighth Streets.

<br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of
<br />American Cancer Society, Orange County Branch, for permission to solicit funds
<br />April 8th through April 20th, 1957, was granted.
<br />
<br />On motion of Counc~m~n Mark~l, seconded by Heinly and carried, the request of Blue
<br />Star Mothers of America, for permission to solicit funds May 3rd, 1957, was granted.
<br />On motion of Councilman Helnly, seconded by Markel and carried, the r~quest of Jack
<br />Fisher Chapter No. 23, Disabled American Veterans, for permission to solicit funds
<br />and to conduct a Baby Show, was granted.

<br />Coemmu~ication was read fr~n F. E. Carter, owner of property at ll20 Russell Avenue,
<br />protesting the condition of Russell Avenue between Shelton and Rosewood Streets,
<br />and on motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Heinly and carried, the matter was
<br />referred to the Department of Public Works for report.

<br />Communication was read from Attorney Robert H. Jacobs, expressing appreciation for
<br />the cooperation of Director of Public Works, Hugh H. Foreman and Inspector, Ted
<br />in the cases of Bond and Moore versus the City, and on motion of Counc~l~-~ Markel,
<br />seconded by Heinly and carried, the matter was referred to the Manager and communi-
<br />cation ordered filed.

<br />C~unication was read from James S. Utt,et al, owners of ~roperties adjacent to.or
<br />in the vicinity of East Chestnut Street Immediately east of the Santa Fe l~ilroad
<br />tracks, advising that due to recent engineering, regrading and destruction of long
<br />existing drains on East Chestnut Street, that the rain on February 23rd caused a
<br />large amount of water to stand on the street making it impassable. On motion of
<br />Counc~lm~n Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the cnm,nn%ication was referred
<br />to the Manager for report.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from California Roadside Council with copy of State Senate
<br />Bill 666 to prohibit outdoor advertising from Freeways and scenic highways and re-
<br />questing support on the matter and submitting bulletin and facts with reference
<br />thereto. On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the
<br />cc~mnunication was referred to the City Council as a committee of the whole.
<br />Conmmmication was read from Lakewood Pan-American Parade Association advising that
<br />the eleventh annual Pan-American Festival Parade will be held on April 13th and
<br />enclosing an entry blank for the City if it desires to enter a float. On motion
<br />Councilman Helnly, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication was received,
<br />filed and referred to the Chamber of Commerce for action.

<br />Communication was read from the Board of Supervisors submitting letter frc~ A. R.
<br />Tompkins, 719 Chalynn Circle, Orange, protesting against the admission charge of
<br />the Skate Ranch, North Main Street, and on motion of Councilm~u Heinly, seconded by
<br />Markel and carried, the protest was referred to the Manager for answer.

<br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication
<br />fro~ the Boundary Commission was received and filed, reference the proposed
<br />ation of territory to the City of Garden Grove, Annexation No. ll~.
