<br />The Manager reported on the request of the Alpha Beta Food Markets, Inc., reference I
<br />the prohibition of diagonal parking on the north side of Washington Avenue between
<br />Main and Sycamore Streets, and for a 35' driveway on the north side of Washington
<br />Avenue. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the
<br />Attorney was instructed to prepare an Ordinance rescinding diagonal parking on the
<br />north side of Washington Avenue between Main and Sycamore Streets, as recommended
<br />by the Traffic Engineer. On recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, and on motion
<br />of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the request of A2pha Beta
<br />Food Markets, Inc., was granted for a 35' driveway on the north side of Washington
<br />Avenue between Main and Sycamore Streets.

<br />The Clerk orally reported on the petitions signed by 24 owners of property request-
<br />ing that proceedings be initiated for an assessment district for the construction
<br />of pavement, curb and gutter, grading appurtenances and appurtenant work where
<br />necessary, in the area described as the north half of Myrtle Street between Daisy
<br />Avenue and Artesta Street, all of Pine Street between Daisy Avenue and Artesia
<br />Street and the east half of Daisy Avenue between First and Myrtle Streets, and
<br />stated t~hat the petitionsd$ not contain sufficient valid signatures to proceed with
<br />an assessment district. It was moved by Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and
<br />carried, that the property owners be advised that the petitions lack the required
<br />60~ of the signatures and addition~ol Petitions may be circulated.
<br />
<br />Councilman Gould requested that a traffic signal be installed at Bristol Street and
<br />Santa Clara Avenue. On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Gould and carried,
<br />the matter was referred to the Manager to determine its priority on the list of
<br />traffic signals and report back.
<br />
<br />Mayor Heinly stated that a vacancy exists on the Planning Commission, term to expire
<br />July l, 1958, A motion was made by Councilman Hubbard, and seconded by Ha~l,
<br />
<br /> that Dr. Cassius E. Paul be nominated as a member of the Planning Commission.
<br />A motion was made by Councilman Markel, and seconded by Gould, that E. A.
<br />
<br />Meredith be nominated as a member of the Planning Commission. A motion was made by
<br />Councilman Could~ and seconded by Markel, that Colonel V. W. Harris be
<br />nominated as a member of the Pla~ming Commission. A motion was made by Councilman
<br />Gould, seconded by Hall. and carried, that the nominations be closed. It was moved
<br />

<br />
<br />by Councilman Hubbard,
