<br />establishing "No Parking or Stopping" on the south side of Commercial Street between
<br />Main Street and Broadway, as recommended by the Traffic Engineer, was considered and

<br />the 500 block East First Street between Myrtle and Oak Streets.

<br />On recommendation of the curb usage conEittee and on motion of Councilman Hubbard,

<br />seconded by Markel and carried, the protest of First Church of Christ, ScientiSt
<br />
<br />against the removal of the stop signs at Tenth and Sycamore Street, was denied.
<br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the Manager was
<br />
<br />granted permission to be absent from his duties for one day, namely July 3, 1957.

<br />The Manager reported that Edward J. Allen, John K. Colwell, Vern Downs, Forrest L.
<br />
<br />Duke, Hugh Foreman, Jr., John Garthe, Dale Griggs, Jack N. Hall, John Henderson,
<br />
<br />Benjamin Koral, Eugene R. La,meister, C. S. Markee, William Secrest, Homer Sterling,
<br />
<br />David ~. ~th, Carl J. Thornton and Warren M~nn, Department Heads and Assistants,
<br />
<br />have c~npleted the course in '"2echnique of Municipal Administration", which
<br />
<br />was taken partislly on City time and their ~own time, and have mmd~ excellent grades
<br />
<br />and have received their certificates.

<br />The Manager presented a letter from the Orange County Water District and recommended
<br />
<br />that a letter be directed to the Secretary-Manager of the District indicating the
<br />
<br />desires of the Council reference variance applications before the Orange County
<br />
<br />Planning Co~nission for the extraction of sand and gravel in the Santa Ana River
<br />
<br />easterly of Yorba Bridge, On motion of Councilm~u Hall, seconded by Markel and
