<br />Meeting called to order by the Mayor.

<br />Each member of the City Council having received copies of the Minutes
<br />of July 1, 1957, reading of the Minutes was dispensed with and approved
<br />on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried.

<br />Comnunicatio~was read from the Planning Cc~m~ssio~ recommending approval of var-
<br />iance application of Bessie M. Braasch to permit the use of property located on
<br />
<br />the north side of East 6th Street at the end of McClay Street, consisting of 2.81
<br />
<br />acres, for a reserve off-street parking area for Freedom Newspapers, Inc., in R-1
<br />
<br />District, subject to two conditions. It was moved by Councilman Markel, seconded
<br />
<br />by Hubbard and carried, that the variance of Bessie M. Braasch be granted, except
<br />
<br />that in lieu of maintaining the two rows of orange trees on the east side of said
<br />
<br />property, as recon~ended by the Planning C~ission, the owner shall construct a
<br />
<br />six foot concrete wall and subject to the installation of curb, gUtter and side-
<br />
<br />walk and paving between gutter and existing pavement, as recommended by the
<br />
<br />Continued hearing
<br />Budget 1957-58
<br />
<br />Department of Public Works.

<br />This being the date set for the continued hearing on the 1957-58 Budget, no ob-
<br />
<br />jections were presented and the hearing was closed. On motion of Councilw~n
<br />
<br />Markel, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the Budget for 1957-58 was adopted as
<br />
<br />Ordinance No. NS-266

<br />

<br />Councilman Markel, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the followmng Ordinance entitled:

<br />This being the date set for the hearing on the adoption of the proposed Civil Set-
<br />
<br />vice Rules and Regulations, Attorney Robert Webb representing the city employees,
<br />objected to the wordtng in Section 2263 defining sick leave and in Section 2275
<br />on outside employment of the employees. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded

<br />This being the date set for hearing and no protests having been received, the
<br />amendment application of Maurice H. Gerard, et al, was considered for the reclassi
<br />fication of property situated at the southwest corner of Monta Vista Avenue and
<br />
<br />Raitt Street, from R-1 to R-3 District. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, secondedl
<br />
<br />by Gould and carried, the following Ordinance entitled:
<br />
<br />,Ordinance a,~nding Article IX of the Santa Arm MUnicipal Code creating
<br />changes ~-u district bou~xlaries, and amending Sheet No. 53 of the Dis-
<br />tricting Map to show the reclassification"
