~¥ OF SAN~A AI~ <br /> <br />ADMINISTRATIVE ASS IS~ANT <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under direction of the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Executive Directors~or <br />department beads, performs responsible and professional staff work in assigned areas <br />of specialized assistance and service to City management. <br /> <br />,EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Reviews, analyzes, evaluates and reports on pending federal, state, county or special <br />district legislation which may have an effect on the City; establishes and maintains <br />close working relationship with the National Council of Mayors, League of California <br />Cities and other goveFnmental associations regarding pending legislation and other <br />matters of interest or concern to the City; develops applications for governmental and <br />other grants-in-aid and assists in coordinating activities necessary to their execution <br />and implementation; performs a variety of staff services and special assignments; con- <br />fers with and assists persons requesting information or services or making complaints; <br />investigates causes of complaints and in coordination with the City Manager and/or <br />department heads, recommends appropriate action to be taken; prepares comprehensive <br />analysis and reports; and performs other related duties as requ%red. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />This is highly responsible and technical staff work requiring considerable initiative, <br />the exercise of mature judgment and the application of knowledge of local and state <br />legislative and administrative processes and procedures in meeting a variety of problems <br />involved in assigned areas of municipal and intergovernmental relatioas. Work involves <br />considerable public contact, presentation and interpretation of City policies, review- <br />ing and analyzing legislation and grant programs, preparing comprehensive reports and <br />handling special.requests and complaints. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />· cation and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or univer- <br />~y with specialization in political science, public or business administration or <br />~sety related field and two years of responsible governmental administrative staff <br />~erience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which <br />provides the following knowledge and abilities: Considerable knowledge of municipal <br />organization and functions and the relationship within the municipal government and <br />with other levels of government. Good knowledge of the legislative processes and pro- <br />cedures of local and state government. Good knowledge of the principles and practices <br />of public administration. Ability to assemble, organize, analyze, interpret and make <br />sound recommendations from factual'information. Ability to develop and present ideas <br />and recommendations effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish <br />and maintain effective relationships with governmental officials, the general public <br />and other employees. -- <br /> ACTION <br /> <br /> <br />
