Heinly Absent, Councilmen None Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending denial of variance application of Merville L. Pence to permit use of existing dwelling on propert~~ at Doctors~ 1419 South Bristol Street for any two of the following professional uses;/_Dentists, Real Estate Brokers, or Insurance Brokers, or, as a beauty salon, with parking for ten cars. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the recommendation of the C~ission was approved and the variance denied. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the communication from Attorney Otto A. Jacobs calling attention to Sections 21264 and 21337 of the Government Code of California, providing for an allowance to the survivors of re- tired safety employees, was received and filed. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the conm~u%ication from the Boundary Commission was received and filed advisir~ of preposed annexation of territory to the City of Fountain Valley "Mile Square Annexation", and that the boundaries of the proposed annexation are reasonably definite and certain. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the comm%u~ication fr~m the County' Clerk submitting certified copy of Resolution of the Board of Supervisors removing certain territory from the Tustin Lighting District, were received and filed. On motion of Councilman Hu~oard, seconded by ~rkel and carried, the communication from the Santa Ana Board of Realtors was received and filed advising they will pro- cess any and all city-owned properties for sale through the Multiple L~stin~ Service when qualified listing for said sale is given on their approved Multiple Listing Forms through an active member of the Board, and the sale of properties will carry the customary 5% commission schedule payable to the Listing Office and/or any co- operating broker office. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the request of Santa Ana-Tustin Conmmnity Chest was granted for permission to place Red-Feather flags on the light standards throughout the shopping ~rea, during the campaigm, September 25, !~57 and removing them November 22, 1957. On motion of Councilman Hubbard~ seconded by ~H~ll and carried, the Purchasi~ ~ent was authorized to advertise for bids for the f~u~nishing of one triple combination 1000 G.P.M. Class "A" lAunDer; bids to be opened September 16, On motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the %~itten recom- mendation of the City Monager, dated August 12, 1957, setting forth salary step increases for one employee effective July l, 1957 and for five employees effective September l, 1957, was received, filed and approved. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Could and carried, the communication from the State of California Regional Water Pollution Control Board No. 8 was that received and filed advising~/the 85th Congress has appropriated $50,000,000 for additional grants to municipalities and intermunicipal agencies for construction or remodeling of~ treatment works for the fiscal year 1~57-58 and California's allotment is $2,053,000.00. It was moved by Councilman Gou!d~ seconded by Hubbard and carried~ that the ma~ter of an appointment to the Personnel Board be referred to the Council as a committee of the whole.
