<br />From the State of California giving notification of termination of Lease No. 32~2
<br />dated September 28, 1954, that the premises at 625 Cypress Avenue will be vacated
<br />on or before September 30, 1957,
<br />From the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California enclosing a tabulation
<br />showing the assessed valuations, percentage participation, and vote entitlement of
<br />constituent municipalities of the District as of August 20, 1957,
<br />From the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California submitting a certified
<br />copy of Besolution 5039 adopted by the Board of Directors, levying a tax for the
<br />fiscal year 1957-58 upon taxable property taxable by the District and including
<br />taxable property lying within the City, and
<br />From the State Division of Highways requesting the Department of Public Works to
<br />undertak~ a study to provide a basis for an over-a~ 1 plan of freeways and express-
<br />ways in the State, which plan will not be limited to State Highways.

<br />Communication was read from L.J.Nolmberg, 618 Cypress Avenue,~ calling attention to
<br />
<br />the deplorable and 8~ngerous condition of the sidewalk in front of 1659 East First
<br />
<br />Street. The Acting City Manager reported that the condition has been corrected
<br />
<br />and on motion of Co11~cflm-~ Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the c~unicatJ
<br />
<br />was received and filed.

<br />Coemmmication was read frc~ Harry G. and Lillian K. Jeffers, 131 North Lyon Street
<br />
<br />on behalf of all the neighbors in the district, protesting against Case-Swmyne
<br />
<br />Company, Inc., using p,!m Street to stack cans and run tow-motors in and out for
<br />
<br />loading and ,reloading every five to ten minutes to 2:00 A.M. and 3:00 A.M., racing
<br />
<br />motors and blowing horns. On motion of Counci!m~n Hubbard, secoDxled by Fa11 and
<br />
<br />carried, the matter was referred to the Mayor for the purpose of directing a lette~
<br />
<br />to Case-Swayne Co. Inc. c~]ling attention to the complaints of residents in the
<br />
<br />area protesting the use of p, lm Street in con~ction with the plant operation a~i
<br />
<br />the attendant noises of trucks, automobiles and personnel leaving the premises.
<br />
<br />Commmmication was read from Daniel R. Casper requesting the return of the Loyalty
<br />
<br />Oath which he signed when employed by the Park Department and objecting to the word
<br />
<br />"defend" in the oath. On motion of Counci]m,- Hubbard, seconded by Gould and car-
<br />ried, the Manager was directed to advise Mr. Casper that the loyalty oath is a par~
<br />
<br />of the official files of the City and c,nnot be returned.
