CITY OF SANT.% ANA <br /> <br />MANPOWER ASSISTANT <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, performs increasingly responsible job counseling, placement <br />and recruitment work in the area of Manpower Planning.. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES. OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Interviews and counsels individuals in evaluating job-related personal characteristics, <br />physical capacities, education and work experience; familiarizes clients with job infor- <br />mation; determines ~ligibility of applicants for participation in Manpower programs; <br /> ledules employment interviews; meets with individuals and groups to promote interest <br /> t participation in employment programs; contacts local college placement centers con- <br /> ming various employment opportunities; identifies recruitment areas and resources <br /> seek out disadvantaged and unemployed individuals; develops and conducts recruitment <br />programs; provides assistance and information to individuals to help overcome such <br />employment problems as transportation and child care; prepares reports and interview <br />smmnaries and maintains files; performs related duties, as required. <br /> <br />~ISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />.An employee in this class is responsible for directing recruiting efforts towards <br />socially and economically disadvantaged persons. This employee must be able to establish <br />a rapport with and understand the problems of people of varying age levels, economic <br />strata and cultural histories. <br /> <br /> ~ECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Completion of 30 units'at an accredited college or university including or supplemented <br />'by ~ourse work in psychology, human services, social science or other related subjects <br />and one year ~f experience in personnel administration programs related to recruitment <br />and selection or experience as a representative of a come, unity service-oriented activity <br />which provides an awareness of poverty and dependency characteristic of socially and <br />economically disadvantaged n~ighborhoods or any equivalent combination of training, <br />education and experience which provides the following knowledge and abilities: <br /> <br />General knowledge of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action problems; ability to con- <br />duct vocational and educational counseling in order to gain information concerning <br />personal 'interests and aptitudes; and ability to plan and schedule recruitment and <br />screening programs. ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
