No. 57-257 <br />Expressing the desire <br />that MacArthur Boulevard <br />be maintained across the <br />San Diego Freeway <br /> <br />Plans and specifications <br />Street improvements on <br />W.Walnut from Pacific to <br /> <br />Appli~atiou <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the plans and speci- <br /> fications were approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for bids <br /> for the construction of pavement on the north side of West First Street from Statio~ <br /> ~6~87.66 to Station 32~63.35, west of Townsend Street, Project No. C-P-l; bids to be <br /> opened October 21, 1957. <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the plans and <br /> specifications were approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for <br /> bids for the construction of pavement~ curb and gutter, on uncompleted portions of <br /> Wilshire Avenue from Bristol Street to Olive Street and Russell Avenue from Rosew~ <br /> Avenue to Lowell Street; bids to be opened October 21, 1957. <br /> <br /> On motion of Counc~lm~ Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the newspaper clipp~ <br /> submitted by an anonymous person was received and filed with reference to the City <br /> of Garden Grove outlawing pinball machines and skill devices. <br /> <br /> On motion of Counc~l~au Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the application of <br /> Uptown Lions' Club for permission to solicit funds for the sale of packaged light <br /> bulbs from October i to October 31, 1957, was granted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Councilman Hubbard~ seconded by Markel and carried~ the request of <br /> <br /> The Sisterhood of Temple Beth Sholom of Orange County was granted to solicit <br /> advertising from merchants in the City through the month of October and through <br /> November 14th, for their Sunday School and teenagers. <br /> <br /> On motion of Counc~lma~ Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the application <br /> before the Public Utilities Commission reference investigation to establish rules <br /> and procedures to facilitate administration of 1957 amendment of Vehicle Code <br /> Sections 576 and 576.5, relating to requirement that certain mOtor vehicles must <br /> stop at railway grade crossings, Case No. 5979, was received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the communication <br />from South M~in Improvement Association was received and filed advising that the <br />State Division of Highways has set the location of the proposed San Diego Freeway <br />to the south of the Orange County Airport and the Association opposes the abandon- <br />ment of MacArthur Boulevard and proposes that the Freeway be intersected with an <br />underpass and the present route of MacArthur Boulevard be maintained in order that <br />it shall Join South Main Street. <br /> <br />The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of <br />Counc~!m~u Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the following Resolution <br />entitled: <br /> <br /> "Resolution No. 57-257 expressing the desire of the City Council <br /> of Santa Aha, California that MacArthur Boulevard be maintained <br /> across the San Diego Freeway" <br /> <br />was considered and passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes, Councilmen Royal E. Hubbard, Stanley C. Gould, Jr., A. A. Hall, <br /> J. Ogden Markel, Dale H. Heinly <br />Noes, Councilmen None <br />Absent, Councflmen None <br /> <br />On motion of Councilmau Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the plans and <br />specifications were approved for street improvements on West Walnut Street fro~ <br />Pacific to Daisy Avenues, Project No. lOT. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the notification of <br />the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control of beverage application of Axel Brenna <br />Jr., Axel T. Brenna, Sr. and Loya A. Brenna, 502 West Fourth Street, was received <br />and filed. <br /> <br /> <br />
