CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTOR/SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, instructs and supervises unskilled, economiCally-dis- <br />advantaged persons in the application of general building trades methods and tech- <br />niques for the minor maintenance, repair and beautification of deteriorated sub- <br />standarding houses. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Trains unskilled persons in the basic methods and.techniques of building maintenance <br />and repair, the proper use of tools, equipment and materials, safety regulations and <br />safe work procedures and practices utilizing a combination of classroom instruction <br />and on-~he-job demonstration and practical work experience; lays out, assigns and <br />closely supervises the work of each assigned trainee; advises and assists trainees <br />regarding work habits and performance; schedules tools and materials; transports <br />trainee crews to and from work sites; maintains records of time, materials and equip- <br />ment; prepares daily progress reports regarding training and status of work projects; <br />and performs related work as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />This is a limited-term project of approximately one year duration from commencement. <br />Persons employed in this classification will be expected to exercise independent <br />judgement and initiative in training and supervising the practical work experience <br />activities for a group.of unskilled, employment handicapped persons. The incumbents <br />.will receive supervision from and be responsible to the program coordinator. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Three years~ experience in the building construction trades and/or maintenance field <br />including at least one year as a lead person or equivalent involving responsibility <br />for training subordinate workers OR any equivalent combination of education, training <br />and/or experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: <br /> <br />Working knowledge of standard work and safety practices, safety regulations, mat~rlals <br />and tools used in building construction.~ particularly in the carpentry, electrical, <br />plumbing, masonry and painting trades; skill and versatility at a variety of main- <br />tenance and' repair tasks; ability to perform in an instructor and supervisor .capacity <br />and to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish effective work' <br />relationships with supervisors, subordinates and the general public; ability to make <br />simple arithmetic calculations, keep work records and prepare simple progress reports. <br /> <br /> <br />
