CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />FIRE PREVENTION AIDE <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />IJnder immediate supervision, performs a limited variety of routine, non-hazardous <br />fire prevention work primarily in the areas of public information and education. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />Learns to perform and participates in fire safety surveys and inspections of residen- <br />tial and commerical properties; locates and identifies existing or potential fire <br />safety problems and recommends appropriate .fire prevention/safety measures and devices, <br />including correcting hazardous conditions, planning fire escape routes and promoting <br />installation of fire detection devices; participates in fire safety education programs, <br />including conducting public presentations for groups of owners and tenants of resi- <br />dantial and commercial properties and other groups or individuals having a concern or <br />interest in fire prevention/safety information; prepares routine correspondence and <br />reports and assists in the preparation and distribution of pamphlets, brochures and <br />othe~ public information material; collects, compiles and tabulates information and <br />data; a~ knowledge ~nd abilities are gained through experience, increasingly indepen-. <br />dent action is expected and required in th~ performance of fire prevention assignments, <br />including learning to perform more difficult, technical inspection work involved in <br />the enforcement pf municipal and state fire prevention laws; performs other related <br />duties as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHIN~OFEATL~ES OF THE CLASS. <br /> <br />This is. limited technical fire prevention work involving primarily the performance.of <br />~outine fire safety inspections and conducting public presentations of an informational/ <br />educational nature requiring good verbal communications skills. Some positions in <br />this class may require bilingual capability in Spanish and English. <br /> <br />,,RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Education and experience equivalent to graduatioh from high school and some experience <br />involving public s~eaking, sales or instructional presentations, or similar public <br />contact work offering significant preparation for the performance of the duties of <br />this position, including the following knowledge and abilities: <br /> <br />Knowledge of ~pe~ch preparation and public speaking techniques; ability to: acquire <br />rapidly a working knowledge of fire. prevention codes, procedures and devices as they <br />apply to fesidential and general commercial properties; speak clearly and convey infor- <br />mation effectively; understand following written and oral instructions; exercise tact <br />and persuasion in working with individuals or groups; and prepare routine correspon- <br />dence and reports and keep simple records. <br /> <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS .. <br /> <br />Minimum agg-;of~8 y~r-~-~--.p'~-~gessiorb~f-s--valid California drivers license; and willing- <br />ess to 'work iany, sh~f~, ~ncludmng' rotating shxfts as needed. <br /> <br /> CLERK'OF THE C07 <br /> <br /> <br />
