GCH: nr <br />2-15-77 <br /> <br />OF SANTA ANA ADOPTING CERTAIN POLICIES,~EC- <br />TIVES AND PRINCIPLES, AS A GUIDE FOR THE NAMING <br />OF PUBLIC PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITIES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana now owns a number of <br />public parks and recreation facilities which do not have names; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana desires to establish <br />a uniform procedure to name public parks and recreation facili- <br />ties; and <br /> <br /> WHERE,, certain policies, objectives and principles <br />relating to the naming of public parks and recreation facilities <br />have been proposed; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SANTA A/qA: <br /> <br /> 1. It shall be the policy of the City of Santa Ana for <br />the Recreation and Park Board of the City of Santa Ana to assume <br />the responsibility for the naming of all public parks and facili- <br />ties within the corporate limits of the City of Santa Ana. The <br />Board shall review all recon~ended names and make their recommen- <br />dation to the City Council for the Council's review and final <br />adoption. <br /> <br /> 2. The objectives to be carried out in the naming of <br />public parks and recreation facilities in the City of Santa Aha <br />shall be: <br /> <br />ae <br /> <br />To establish a uniform procedure regarding the <br />naming of existing and future parks and facilities <br />which will assure good taste and community com- <br />patibility. <br /> <br />Be <br /> <br />To name parks and facilities in such a way that <br />they will be easily identified and complement <br />the area in which they are located. <br /> <br />Ce <br /> <br />To encourage individuals or groups to perpetuate <br />their names in a useful manner by the dedication <br />of land or funds for public use for a public park <br />or other similar purposes. <br /> <br /> 3. The principles to be followed in the naming of parks <br />and recreation facilities in the city of Santa Ana shall be: <br /> <br />ne <br /> <br />When parks or facilities are dedicated to the City <br />of Santa Aha they may be named after individuals <br />or groups who contribute land or funds to that <br />purpose. The name of the park or facility may be <br />held in perpetuity. <br /> <br />Be <br /> <br />When parks or facilities do not fall into the <br />prior classification then they may be named as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Neighborhood parks which are adjacent to schools <br />should be named after the school; for example, <br />Madison School - Madison Park. <br /> <br /> <br />
