442 <br /> <br />Request <br />Orange County <br />Motor Escort <br /> <br />On motion of Counci]m,u Gould, seconded by Markel and carried, the request of Orangel <br />County Motor Escort for adoption of regulations to prevent accidents while escortingi]~ <br />funeral processions, was referred to the Attorney for investigation and recc~nmendati~n. <br /> <br />Communieation was presented from Santa Aha City Employees Association requesting re- <br /> <br />Renewal of option <br />Santa Ana City <br />Employees Assoc. <br /> <br />Petition to <br />resurface alley <br />500 block Orange <br />Ave. 300 block Myrtle <br />and Camile Street <br /> <br />Approve plans and specifi- <br />cations; advertise for bids <br />Construct sanitary sewer <br />on Chestnut Ave. <br /> <br />newal of option as provided in agreement dated March 19, 1956 and extending the con- <br /> <br />tract from April 1, 1958 to March 31, 1959, for the refreshment concession at the <br /> <br />Municipal Bowl, and on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Markel and carried, <br /> <br />the communication was received, filed and option for renewal granted. <br /> <br />A petition was presented signed by six property owners and residents living in the <br /> <br />500 block of Orange Avenue, 300 block of Myrtle Street and of Camile Street, requestt <br />lng that the alley running north and south between Myrtle and Camile Streets be re- <br />surfaced to drain. Two property owners advised as to the condition of the alley an~ <br />on motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Markel and carried, the matter was referre$ <br />to the Department of Public Works for appropriate action. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilm~u Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the plans and <br /> <br />specifications were approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for <br /> <br />bids for the construction of a sanitary sewer on Chestnut Avenue from Maple Street <br /> <br /> to Halladay Street, Projec+ No. 19; bids to be opened May 5, 1958. <br /> <br />Communication was presented frc~ the Superintendmnt of Schools, together with excerpt <br /> <br />from Minutes of the Santa Ana Board of Education meeting held March 25, 1958, recom- <br /> <br />mending that the "student patrol" system be adopted, effective immediately, and be <br /> <br />inaugurated on a trial basis in three pilot schools before a f~]l-scale progrem is <br /> <br />Communication <br />Superintendent of <br />Schools - "Student <br />patrol" system <br /> <br />entered into. Inc., 2720 North Main Street, Edward V. and Mildred A. Zirinsky, <br /> <br /> 315 North Sycamore Street, Paz V. and Bonifacio G. Medrano, 424 East Third Street, <br /> <br />and Raisin Emterprises, Inc., 2120 Bristol Street, were received and filed. <br />Communication was read from Mrs. Wade Herrin, President, P.T.~i. Wilson School, pro- <br />testing the removal of the traffic guard from the intersection of Bristol Street an~! <br />Washington Avenue, and on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Markel and carried <br />the communication was received aud filed. Mrs. Herrin requested information as <br />to whether any further action will be taken on the protest as it is very important <br />as many small children use the intersection and since the crossing guard was trans- <br />ferred to Washington Avenue and Baker Street, the situation is extremely hazardous. <br />Mrs. Herrin stated that some traffic control should be made before the "student <br /> <br />patrol program" is put into effect.
