No, 58-216 <br />Salary of <br />Resident Engineer <br /> ~'~o <br /> <br />Merit salary increases <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the Purchasing <br />Agent was authorized to advertise for bids to be opened SelYoember 15, 1958~ for the '. <br />widening of 17th Street from College Avenue to Bristol Street and from Baker Street <br />to To~er Street, Projects Nos. 104 and 109. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried~ the plans and speci- <br />fications were approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for bids <br />to be opened September 15, 1958, for the construction of the Delhi Road storm drain~ <br /> <br />from Greenville-Banning channel D-3 to Diamond Street, Project No. 30. <br />. <br />On motion of Councilman Huobard~ seconded by Gould and carried, the plams and speci~ <br /> <br />fications were approved and the Purchasing Agent authorized to advertise for bidm ~ <br />to be opened September 15., 1958, for the construction of sanitary sewer on English <br /> <br />Street from 5th to 15th Streets, Project No. 23. <br />. <br />On motien of Councilman Hubbard~ seconded by Gould and carried~ the plans and speci- <br /> <br />fications .were approved for the paving of Standard Avenue from Delhi Road to Mc- <br />Fadden Street, Project No. lll. <br /> <br />A petition was presented signed by approximately 80 persons requesting the Council <br />to rescind its action in granting the Weber Baking Company permission to erect a <br />large billboard along the Santa Ana Freewav and to revise the present Ordinance or <br />adopt a new Ordinance controlling billboards and signs. On motion of Councilman. <br />Hubbard~ seconded by Gould and carried, the petition was received and filed. <br />Messrs. Gates Burrows and Chas. D. Swarmer objected to the size of the sign to be <br />erected and felt that all billboards should be prohibited along Freeways. It was <br /> <br />also mentioned that the State Highway Department refuses to landscape or maintain <br /> not <br />landscaping along freeway sections where cities do/have adequate billboard control. <br /> <br />Mrs. Weston Walker asked how far the Weber Baking Cc~pany sign would be located from <br />the Freeway add requested the present Ordinance he revised to control billboards. <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Gould~ seconded by Hubbard and carried~ that the matter <br />be referred to the City Attorney to rewrite the Freeway sections of the Ordinance, <br />tighten up and take out the loop holes. On motion of Councilman Nubbard~ seconded <br />by Gould and carried~ the additional petitions with 32 names attached, were received <br />and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Nubbard~ seconded by Gould and carried~ proper officials <br />were authorized to execute an agreement with the State of California Department of <br />Finance, dated August 18, 1958~ providing for the preparation of a population esti- <br />mate as of November l, 1~58. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried~ the request of the <br />Manager for a new. classification of Resident Engineer, was approved. <br /> <br />The Council having unanimous~V waived the reading of the Resolution, on motion of <br />Counc~m~n Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried~ the following Resolution entitled: <br /> <br /> "Resolution No. 58-216 establishing the positio~ of Resident Engineer and <br /> fixing the salary thereof" <br /> <br />was considered and passed by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes~ Councilman Royal E. Ogden Markel <br />. <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the written recom- <br />mendation of the Manager dated August 5, 1958, for salary step increases for twelve <br />employees effective September 1, 1958, was approved. <br /> <br /> <br />
