Councilman Gould co~ented that First Street~ has a traffic problem and the cost is the most important factor as to what is done with First Street and suggested using parking meter money to widen First Street, bu~ does not believe in decreasing the development of other streets for First Street. Mayor Heinly commented that one-way streets cannot prove that it accounts for loss of revenue and business since certain other Cities have one-way streets and their businesses are successful. It was moved by Councilman Hall that Walnut Street be developed as an altermat~ two-way street to rel1~ the congestion on First Street, · rith signals at BristOl,Flower, Broadway and Sycamore Streets. Motion lost for lack of a second. It was moved by Councilman Markel that the Council proceed to make First Street four traffic lanes and two parking lanes. Motion lost for lack of a second. It was moved by Councilman Gould, seconded by Hall and carried, that the Council declare its intention not to establish one-way traffic on First Street and/or Walnut Street, and that the Manager be instructed to make a survey of the cost of widening First Street as to the physical construction, the cost of acquiring additional properties and the amount of such property which will be donated for such purpose by the owners. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, Revised Tentative Map of Tract No. 2719 filed by Erwin Eisenbraun on 28 lots located on the south side of Sixth Street with a frontage of 4~0 feet beginning at a POint 165 feet east of Eastside Avenue and extending southerly to a depth of 570 feet, was approved subject to conditions.
