RESOLUTION NO. 80-52 <br /> <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />PARKS RENOVATION SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />Under general supervision, assists in administering and supervising a CETA-funded <br />Parks Beautification and Manpower Training Program for limited-skilled, economically <br />disadvantaged residents of the City. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />'Confers with and assists parks management personnel in planning, organizing and <br />'implementing a limited-term program designed to provide training and practical work <br />experience for unskilled and limited-skilled CETA participants in the renovation, <br />care and maintenance of park sites and landscaped street medians, including the <br />maintenance and repair of park equipment and facilities; assists training specialists <br />during periodic on-site training sessions; schedule~ lays out, assigns and supervises <br />the work of participants; enforces work standards and checks work in progress and <br />upon completion; personally instructs and assists participants to apply methods and <br />techniques, use tools and equipment and observe safe work practices and procedures <br />involved in the maintenance and repair of park facilities and equipment and the <br />reconstruction or renovation and care of landscaped areas; evaluates work performance <br />of participants and prepares periodic progress reports regarding each participant's <br />development and the status of work projects; orders and schedules the use of materials, <br />tools and equipment; and performs other related duties as required. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />The specific limited-term project for which this class has been established is <br />designed to terminate approximately eighteen (18) months after its co~m~encement, at <br />which time this class will be abolished and its incumbent laid off. Persons employed <br />in this class will be expected to exercise independent judgement and initiative in <br />supervising and assisting in the training of a group of limited-skilled economically- <br />disadvantaged persons. Incumbents report to the superintendent of the Parks Division. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED MINIMUM qUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />Experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school and three year's <br />experience in the construction and maintenance of landscaped park sites or closely <br />related work including one year in a supervisory capacity OR any equivalent com- <br />bination of education, training and/or experience which provides the following <br />knowledge, abilities and skills: <br /> <br />Working knowledge of: standard methods and techniques, safe work practices, materials, <br />tools and equipment used in the construction, care and maintenance of landscaped areas <br />and the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment typically found in recrea- <br />tional park sites; planting, cultivation and care of lawns, shrubs and other plants. <br />Familiarity with soil mixtures and fertilizers and water and pest control needs of <br />various ground covers, plants and shrubs. Ability to: interpret landscaping and <br />irrigation system plans; organize, schedule, lay out, assign and supervise work for <br />limited-skilled workers; keep time, material and equipment records and prepare activity <br />progress reports. Skill and versatility at a variety of maintenance and repair tasks <br />including reconstruction or renovation of irrigation systems, landscaped areas, and <br />playground equipment, and the safe operation of tractors, gang mowers, rototillers, <br />chemical sprayers, paint sprayers, skip loaders and similar equipment. <br /> <br /> <br />
