Communication was again read from the Planning Commission rec~-~ending approval of Variance Application No. 1223, filed by the Bank of America National Trust and Savings Association, to erect an office building to be used by a social service staff, on property at 1612 Spurgeon Street, in the R-3 District, subject to condi- tions. Reverend Barry, 855 So. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, requested that the Variance be granted with a three-foot setback from the sidewalk which would provide for maximum use of the remaining property fOr parking facilities, and presented thee plans. Pltm A womld indicate that the usage for parking facilities with thre~ feet clearance at rear of the building would provide for maximum use of 14 p~rking spaces; plan B would provide fo~ a 6'6" setback, plus a three-foot clea~mce at the rear of the building aud provide 13 parking spaces; and plan C would provide for a 15-foot setback from the sidewalk, plus a three-foot clearance with 11 parking spaces. Father Barry stated no objections were presented from the residents in the area and requested the original application be granted with the minimum three-foot setback. Marvin Helsley, 1610 Spurgeon Street, stated he owns the property on the south and did not object to the Variance Application, but was not in accord with the three-foot setback, as it would block off the view of his building and create a traffic hazard. The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Resolu- tion, on m~tion of Councilmen Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the.following Resolution entitled: "Resolution No. 60-1 granting Variance on Application No. 1223 and modifying r~cc~mmended conditions"
