<br /> 'On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the application
<br /> of the Camp Fire Girls, Orange County Council, was granted to solicit funds throu
<br /> the annual peanut sale frc~ January 2Otb through February 6th, 1961.

<br /> On motion of Counci!mau ltu~bard, seconded by Gould and carried, the request of
<br /> Albert F. Best was granted fora City License to conduct the Broadway Billiard an
<br /> Beer Parlor, BiO, North Broadway, and the written report of the Police Department
<br /> was received and filed.
<br />
<br /> On rec~endation of the Poli~e Department, and on motion of Councilman Hubbard,
<br /> seconded by Gould and carried, the request of the California Auction School and
<br /> Service was ~nted, to coeduct an auction of the furniture and appliances of the
<br /> Barnett Furniture Store, 506 E. First Street, January 6th and 7th, 1961.
<br /> Petitions were presented signed by approximately fifty-two persons requesting
<br /> annexation to the City of territory described as ex~ending north from the south
<br /> line of Fairhaven Avenue between Yorba and Santiago Avenues, and extending south
<br /> from the north line of Fairhaven Avenue between Esplanade Avenue and a line Just
<br /> west of Ethelbee Way, designated "Fairhaven and Esplanade West Annex." On motion
<br /> of Counci~u Hubbard, seconded by Nein~yand carried, the petitions were received
<br /> and filed. ~

<br /> On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Brewer and~arried, the claim of
<br /> ~ the sam of
<br /> M. R. Gabrlel~ 2008 Heliotrope Drive% due to malfunctioning of the traffic signal
<br />
<br /> at the intersection of 17th and Flower Streets, resulting in collision of vehicles
<br /> was referred to the City Attorney and Insurance Carrier.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Councilman Nubbard, seconded by Neinly and carried, proper officials
<br /> were authorized to execute agreement dated jan,,,wy 3, 1961, with Nathan Franklin
<br /> Andrews, owner of property at 2701 West First Street, and Eebe Gerald and Carrie
<br /> Brooks, lesseesof property at 2701 West First Street, wherein the City proposes to
<br /> improve the street and sidewalk aloug said West First Street adjoining said pre-
<br /> mises, and to provide for lowering the street and sidewalk located within the
<br /> City's street right-of-way below the level of the said adjoining property and for
<br /> the construction of steps from said property to the sidswalk in order to provide
<br /> adequat~ access.

<br />It was moved by Councilma~ Gould, seconded by Nelnly and carried, that the Manager
<br />be instructed to direct the Police Department to station a police officer at the
<br />intersection of Broadway and 17th Street, for a period of thirty days, between
<br />7:~5 A.M. to 8:~5 A.M. and ~:BO P.M. to 5:~5 P.M., to ~11eviate the traffic proble~
<br />Mrs. William Swisher, 1127 Russell Avenue, orally complained that a carnival has
<br />been operating at the A & P Food Stores, 1120 So. Bristol Street, for the past
<br />seven days, between the hours of ll:00 A.M. until approx!~ately 9:BO P.M., and the
<br />noise of the generators and motors have made it difficult for the residents to
<br />remain in their homes. Also, the children visiting the carnival are exposed to
<br />the crude lance of the men operating the equipment, and, further, she was ad-
<br />vised that the carnival would again return to the area. It was moved by Councilm~
<br />Gould, seconded by Brewer and carried~ that the verbal report be accepted, and the
<br />Manager directed to write a letter to the Manager of the Carnival and to the
<br />Manager of the A & P Food Stores, with reference to the complaint and to take some
<br />action for the future.
