<br /> cation No. 1~O1, wherein Planning C~m~fssion recommended denial, to erect an
<br /> advertising sign ~7.feet above ground level, which is 12 feet above the heightlilt
<br /> limitation of the C 2 District, on property at 1~06 East First Street. Dave De~,
<br /> 3233 Kurtz Street, San Diego, stated he is a partner in the Foodmaker Company, op-
<br /> erating ~6 drive-ins throughout Southern California, ~ixteen of which are Oscar
<br /> Drive-ins havtng 47-foot signs, located in San Diego, Buena Park and several
<br /> locations in Los Angeles County. He stated that when the property was purchased
<br /> in May, they were informed there were no sign restrictions at that time and were
<br /> not aware of the new Zoning Ordinance ltmfting the height of signs to 35 feet in
<br /> the C-2 District, until they applied for a huilding.permit. Further, there is an
<br /> existing 67-fOot sign in the area, and as the drive-ins are an impulse type of
<br /> business, the requested sign height is necessary to the success of the drive-in
<br /> restaurant. C~unication was presented from Gates W. Burrows, Chairman, Civic
<br /> Beautificatian C¢~tttee, stating the members of the C~-m~ttee are concerned as
<br /> to the feasibility of maintaining the Ordinance which sets the height lfm~t at
<br />
<br /> 35 feet, end on motion of Councilmau Eubhard, seconded by Brewer and carried, the

<br /> fication Committee, stated there was a tendency for the signs to become larger and
<br /> more demanding, the Zoning Ordinence should be enforced and the Appeal Appli-
<br /> cation denied. It wes moved by Councllw~u Gould, and seconded by Hubbard, that
<br /> the recommendation of the Planning Ccm~lssinn be upheld and Appeal Application No.

<br />Appeal Application No. 8 of G. B. Miller Company, operators of Town & Country
<br />Villa (Trailer Park), 3929 West Fifth Street, was presented, appealing the Plannin
<br />C.--.-Issiou. s confirmation of an action by the Planain~ Director, which permitted
<br />the location at 606 Harbor Boulevard to be used as a Go-Cart (Race) Track by
<br />
<br />F. L. Ross, and on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried,
<br />the matter was continued to February 6, 1961.

<br />Cc-.-..~lnication was presented from the Planning Commission rec~ending approval of
<br />the rec~endation of Orange County Street Naming C~,mtttee, November 28, 1960,
<br />that Talbert Avenue-Dyer Road be changed to Talbert Avenue for this route through-
<br />out its entire length; that Wintersburg Avenue-Delhi Road he changed to Warner
<br />Avenue; and that Smeltzer Avenue-Edinger Street be changed to Edinger Avenue. ~
<br />motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the rec~,mendation o~
<br />the Planning C~ission with respect to the street names, was approved, and the
<br />ccmm~mication received and filed.
