4. Signs located under canopies or other architectural projections shall com- <br /> ply with the following standards: <br /> <br /> A. Contain business name and/or activity only. <br /> <br /> B. No more than one sign per entrance. <br /> <br /> C. Not to exceed 4 square feet, with letters a maximum of 8 inches. <br /> <br />5. Methods of Construction and Materials: <br /> <br /> A. Hanging signs are constructed largely of wood. The same methods <br /> described in the wooden signage section are applicable. <br /> <br /> B. Hanging signs also can be constructed of tile and metal with an <br /> enamel design. <br /> <br />6. Basic Methods for Attaching Such Signs to a Building: <br /> <br /> A.Hanging designs can range from very simple to quite intricate <br /> and artful, e.g., double signs, one on top of the other. <br /> <br /> B. Projecting icon signs which are supported from the storefront <br /> facade are direct in appearance and cannot swing back and forth, <br /> as the hanging method allows. <br /> <br />7. Exterior Lighting for Signage: All of the signage discussed above should <br /> have the capacity of being lit externally for evening visibility. Signage <br /> bands, as well as icon signs, should be lit from a wall or roof with a <br /> fixed light system. <br /> <br />Freestandin9 Signs <br /> <br />Freestanding signs are used in situations where buildings are set back from the <br />sidewalk area and some form of a front yard is rpesent. These signs are usually <br />constructed of wood and are supported by one or more wooden posts driven direct- <br />ly into the ground or are monument signs. <br /> <br />Location: Freestanding signs should be located where they are not ob- <br />structed by landscaping and can be easily viewed by pedestrians and <br />motorists. These signs are required to be located in a landscaped <br />planter away from a driveway or othe~ vehicle access point. <br /> <br />~Colors, Lettering Styles, Materials, etc.: See description under wall <br />signs and projecting signs. Generally, not more than three compatible <br />colors (brown or black lettering on a cream color background). <br /> <br />3. Size: Non-freeway signs are permitted up to 10 feet in height and no <br /> more than 60 square feet in area. <br /> <br />4. Content: No more than 10 items; copy area cannot exceed 40% of <br /> background. <br /> <br />- 46 - <br /> <br /> <br />
