Stebbins, <br />Buffums' Mid-block <br />Crosswalk Bush St. <br />btn 9th and 10th <br />sts. <br /> <br />Request <br />Diamond School P.T.A., <br />et al Flashing red sig- <br />nal intersectionGreen- <br />ville St. and Edinger <br />Ave. ~ ~ 0 <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Hubbard and carried, therequest of <br />Hanson-O'Bryan and Associate8 was gra~ted to hold an auCtion May 15, 1962, at lOIB <br />No. Puller Street, of Electrical Contractor's equipment, trucks, tools, supplies, <br />and office furniture of Wright Electric~ Inc. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by H1Abbax~land carried, the request of <br />Nanson-O'B~yan and Associates was denied for continuing authority to conduct auc- <br />tions at regular intervals, subject to applicable license fees, at 838 East First <br />Street. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the claim of <br />Charles L. Abernathy, for damages in the sum of not less than $25,000.00, for <br />alleged d~mages to his personal liberty and freedom, his physical body and person, <br />and in his business relations with business and professional clients, resulting <br />from arrest based on traffic violations for which the fines had been paid, was re- <br />ferred to the Attorney and Insurance Carrier. <br /> <br />The Manager orally reported an investigation has been made at the intersection at <br />Hazard Street in front of the Rosita School and it meets the established require- <br />ments for the placing of a crossing guard, reference petition sigued by approximate <br />ly 380 persons requesting an adult crossing guard at Hazard Street in front of the <br />Rosita School, and fully rejecting the principle of a school boy patrol. On motion <br />of Cotmcilmau Brewer, seconded by Heinly and carried, the petition was received and <br />filed. Mrs. Joe W. Headlee, ll02 North Berni Street, presented an additional peti- <br />tion, with apprex~m~tely 52 signatures, to the petition previously submitted. On <br />motion of Counc~Imau Hubbard, seconded by Heinly and carried, the petition was re- <br />ceived and filed~ Mrs. Headlee stated reasons for objecting to a school boy patrol <br />at this location, because, the patrolis exposed to possible traffic hazards, pupil <br />patrols place grave responsibilities in the hands of immature children, and this <br />program deprives patrol members of valuable class time which should be spent in <br />study and instruction, and requested the placement of a paid adult crossing guard. <br />It was moved by Councilman Brewer, that an adult crossing guard be employed at <br />Hazard Street in front of the Rosita School, for the remainder of this year and <br />next year. Motion lost for lack of a second. On motion of Councilman Heinly, sec- <br />onded by Hubbard and carried, the request for an adult crossing guard was denied. <br />R. M. StebbinS, Personnel-Operations Nanager~ Buffums'~ stated there is a problem <br />with pedestrians crossing in the middle of the block on Hush Street, between 9th <br />and loth Street, and requested to go on record for public safety, reference his re- <br />quest for a mid-block crosswalk across Bush Street, between 9th and 10th Streets. <br />On motion of Counc~l,~n Heinly, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the request was <br />denied. <br /> <br />C~-.....unication was presented frc~ the Department of Public Works recommending denial <br />of replacement of the three-way stop, and recommending placement of a school boy <br />patrol at the intersection of Greenville Street and Edinger Avenue, reference peti- <br />tion from the Diamond School P.T.A., signed by approximately 1366 persons in <br />the Diamond School area, and letter from Mrs. W. G. Miley, 1932 So. Diamond Street <br />requesting a flashing red signal at this location. On motion of Councilman Heinly <br />seconded by Hubbard and carried, the request was denied. John C. Brlley, 2218 Bor <br />chard Avenue, stated the situation at this location is unique, and he would not <br />allow his son to serve on the school boy patrol as there are six lanes of traffic <br />on Edinger Avenue; and a number of tickets are issued daily by Police Officers for <br /> <br /> <br />
