<br />It was moved by Councilman Hubbard, seconded by gchlueter and carried, that all
<br />protests be over-~led and the hearing closed. The motion was considered and
<br />passed by the following vote:

<br />This being the date set for continued hearing on annexation of territory designated
<br />"Newport and Dyer, S.E. Annex," the Mayor asked if there were any persons present
<br />desiring to speak in favor of the annexation. A "Report of the Annexation Ccmmaittee"
<br />recommending the annexation was read by William B. Kohl, Assistant Manager of the
<br />Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce~ which was signed by Paul White, Chairman, and ten
<br />members. Statements in favor of the annexation were also made by the following:

<br />J. Ogden Markel, 1814 So. Parton; Lewis Letson, Golden Range Foundation, Rossmore;
<br />
<br />Joe Lozano, 4609 W. Oakfield, Union Representative speaking for the Orange County
<br />Educational Cc~mittee; Douglas Clark, 1510 N. Mar-Les Drive; Delbert Michael, 917 S.
<br />Toland Avenue, who submitted a list of names of interested persons as follows:

<br />Hall read a telegram addressed to the City Manager from Joe A. O'Campo, congratulating
<br />him on his stand favoring the annexation, and one to the Councilmen from Rudy E.
<br />Gallegos, giving his wholehearted support to the annexation. Also presented were
<br />letters of approval from the following: Marie Edmonds, 4213 W. Flight; Lola V.
<br />Kinsley, 4209 W. Flight; Lloyd E. Kinsley, 4209 W. Flight; Fortunato F. Gonzales, Jr.~
<br />Howard D. Croswhite and Joanna Croswhite, 4410 W. Regent Drive; Anthony Alvarez,
<br />
<br />4310 W. Kent Street; Adam Hopp, Sr., 4218 W. Flight; Delbert W. Michael, 917 S. Tol-
<br />and Avenue; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Rigoni, 916 Toland Street. It was moved by
<br />Councilman Brewer, seconded by Hubbard and carried, that the co~m~uications be
<br />received and filed.

<br />The Mayor asked if there were any persons desiring to speak in protest of the annexa-
<br />tion, and the following persons were heard: William French Smith, 634 So. Spring
<br />Street, Les Angeles, Attorney representiug The Irvine Cc~pany, who submitted a volume
<br />containing the following: (1) Statements in opposition to the annexation. (2) Let-
<br />ter dated July 26, 1962 from William French Smith of Gibson~ Dunn & Crutcher, enclosing
<br />map; Affidavit from Charles S. Thomas, President of The Irvine Cempany, with exhiblts~
<br />Affidavit by Raymond L. Curran relative to moving people off the land; statement of '
<br />William L. Pereira and Associates dated July 20, 1962 in opposition to the aunexation~
<br />Affidavit of William H. Spurgeon, Vice President of Irvine Cempany, dated July 23,
<br />1962; and statement in opposition to annexation by Raymond L. Watson, A.I.A., M~nager
<br />of Planning, The Irvine Company. It was moved by Councilman Brewer, seconded by
<br />Hubbard and carried, that the documents be received and filed. It was moved by
<br />Councilman Hubbard~ seconded by Brewer and carried~ that the official protests be
