RESOLUTION NO. 199 9 - 0 14 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SANTA ANA ADOPTING THE <br />"GRANTS FOR BLOCKS" PROGRAM WORKING <br />IN COLLABORATION WITH THE COMMUNITY <br />DEVELOPMENT RESOURCE NETWORK TO OFFER <br />GRANTS TO LOCAL COMMUNITY-BASED <br />ORGANIZATIONS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has been working closely with the Community <br />Development Resource Network to identify corporate sponsors for the Grants for Blocks program in <br />order to encourage greater resident and conununity participation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Grants for Blocks is intended to encourage community building projects and <br />greater collaboration between neighborhood groups, service clubs, schools, community-based <br />organizations, the faith community and local businesses; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, interested corporations may make monetary donations to the City of Santa Ana <br />designated specifically for the Grants for Blocks program. Said donations will be kept in a separate <br />escrow account and the donors will be recognized by the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Grants for Blocks Program will be an annual competitive program offering <br />monetary grants in amounts not to exceed $500.00. Proposals from potential grant recipients will be <br />solicited from the community, with submissions reviewed and recommended by the Steering <br />Committee of the Community Development Resource Network. The Steering Committee is <br />comprised of numerous volunteers from community-based groups and non-profit organizations. No <br />member of the Steering Committee shall vote on any submission for grant money in which he/she <br />may have an interest. In the event that said Steering Committee fails to exist, the Human Relations <br />Commission shall serve in its place; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the recommendations of the Steering Committee/Human Relations Commission <br />shall be forwarded to the Executive Director of the Community Development Agency for approval; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City will serve as the fiscal agent accepting donations and making <br />disbursements from the escrow account to the chosen recipients, monitor the progress of the <br />projects, ensure that such projects are completed, and assist the Resource Network in documenting <br />the success of the program in order to benefit its financial supporters, as well as the community at <br />large. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA: <br /> <br /> <br />
