MID-YEAR ~DGET REVISYON A discussion was h~d regar41~ the <br /> proposed mid-year Bm4get revisimm for <br /> 1966-67 presented by the City ~saagero <br />C~ncilmam M~rkel obJecte~ to the ~il~ing Depaxtment's b~get re,aiming at the <br />same level when s~bdivision activity is deW~o The City ~M--ager stated there w~uld <br />be two or three major subdivisio~s coming before the Council within the next few <br />weeks; that c~ercial and in~ustrial construction is about the same as a year <br />ago, but residential buildiag has decliae~. He recommended ke~piag a trained <br />staff as they will probably Be needed in a very short time, and it will be dif- <br />ficult to replace them; in the meantime, these men are catahing up in situations <br />that needed it. <br /> <br />Council~ Brooks remarked that he was in agreement with the City Manager and <br />he th~W~ the Bu~tldi~g Deps~T~memt is r~u very efficiently° Mayor Harvey spoke <br />of the m~y people who are coming into this area, requiring more homes to be <br />built, amd a good look shoul~ be taken at the situation before the City loses <br />go~, trained employees. Ce~ncilmam Burk stated that Councilman Narkel had <br />bromght this issue up in July, and as of now, the work doesn't seem to have <br />picked up except in enforcing residential v~olations; he thinks Councilman <br />Markel has a very goo~ point. <br /> <br />Proposed purchase of the Greenville Fire Station for use as a bramch library <br />(to house the collection of books from the closed Lathrop School bramch) was <br />discussed at length. Co%uucilman McNlchael felt the purchase of a brauch <br />library woul~ set precedent for similar requests from residents of other sections, <br />suggesting that the outcome of the bon~l election woul~l have a bearing on his de- <br />cision to provide funds for this rose.
