Santa Ana Blvd., Suite 200
Santa Ana, CA 92701

Dear Ms. Chen-Lee:

I am writing to express my interest in the advertised position of Career Counselor consultant. I would be
honored by your considerate review of my experience, skills, and training that substantiates and exemplifies
my qualifications to provide Career Counseling and Mental Health services to the customers at the Santa
Ana W/O/R/K Center who are in the process of becoming reemployed or retrained.

I have enjoyed the privilege of serving in the capacity of Wellness Coordinator at the W/O/R/K Center
since October 1997. This role began with the primary responsibility to help those in need and who desired
personal counseling as they struggled with their unemployment status and expanded over the years to
include Vocational Assessment and Career Counseling. As part of these functions, I regularly consult, as
appropriate and with customer consent, with Center staff to coorc[/nate services and optimizing success.

My work has involved me in consulting with customers and staff on a variety of issues and concerns relating
to these areas. I have worked with and helped customers whose barriers to success have involved personal,
interpersonal, or behavioral issues. Some examples include high levels of stress accompanied with disabling
fear; marital conflict related to pressures of money, lack of work, or uncooperative support to provide
school/training study time; depression with suicidal thoughts and feelings; profound grief; feelings of being
lost, not knowing what direction to go in; and a sense of isolation; among others. There have been
occasions when evaluation revealed the need for outside healthcare services or other resources and referrals
were made accordingly.

On the career side of concerns, customers have presented with a complaint of not having a clear idea or
goal, especially when their previous occupational field is diminishing or their recognition of a lack of
progress in life after bouncing from one unfulfilling job to another. Some of these cases have illustrated how
career and personal counseling can and do overlap. My continuing effort to remain updated with career
development and labor market issues, and trends in the marketplace contributes to my effectiveness as a
counselor in this area and in my role as Assessment or Vocational Counselor.

This additional related role has allowed me to provide Vocational or Diagnostic Assessment information to
Case Managers and their customers for purposes of consideration for funding for vocational training, work
experience (WEX) placement, or other similar programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) or
