RECESS <br /> <br />At 10~25 PoMo~ a five-minute recess was <br />declared. The City Council. reconvened <br />at 10~30 PoM.~ with Councilman Carlson absent. <br /> <br />BUDGe? FOR 1967~68 FISCAL YEAR <br /> <br />Hearing was opened on the proposed. Budget <br />for the fisca± year 196'7-68. <br /> <br />Gerald Peebler~ representing the South Main ~provement Associations asked <br />the Council to widen Main at the southwest corner of First when First Street <br />is widened~ The Public Works DirecOor explained that, the widening of First <br />Street in this area is in the ~dget~ and he felt with the widening of First <br />Street this property would be developed and acquisition costs would be less <br />with the building demolished° He noted further that Main is narrow from <br />Fdrst to 8th or lOth~ Councilman Markel said that he was in favor of switching <br />some of the money allocated for the improvement of streets going south from <br />Talbert ~ <br /> <br />Mrs° Janice Boer requested the Council to consider putting in a vote recorder <br />and a tape recorder in the Chamber'; objected to adding auotber Civil Defense <br />man~ asked about legal fees to defend Chief of Police~ opposed improving <br />streets in the south~ objected to lack of Ward 5 representation and questioned <br />legality of Councilman Carlson voting on the Budget~ having been absent from <br />the study sessions and hearing~ <br /> <br />On motion of CounciLman Market, seconded by Councilman Herrin and carried~ <br />the hearing on the proposed Budget for 1967-68 was continued to July 17o <br /> <br />Councilman Herrin co~ented that every department with revenues should be <br />as self-supporting as possible. Councilman Markel suggested adjustment of <br />zoning application fees. <br /> <br />DY~ AAD GR~ND NORTHWEST ANNEX Hearing was opened on proposed annex- <br /> ation designated as ~Dyer and Grand <br /> Northwest Annex" described in Resolution <br />of Lmtention 67-66~ The Clerk reported notice of hearing published in The <br />Eegister on May 27 and June 3~ 1967s and in the Orange Daily News on May 24 <br />and May 31~ 1967~ and mailed to the property owners on May 17s 1967~ with <br />affidavits on files cud that no written protests had been received~ There <br />being no response to call for testimony~ the hearing was closed. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 67-103 DECLARING THAT A MAJORITT PROTEST HAS NOT BEEN MADE AGAINST <br />THE ANNEXATION OF TERRITORY DESIGNATED ~DYER AND GRAND NORTHWEST AN/~EX~ was <br />read by title° <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Grisets secauded by Councilman Herrin, that further <br />reading be waived and the resolution be adopted. On roll call vote~ <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br />Councilmen Herrin~ Brookss Grisets Markel~ Thurman~ <br />McMichael <br /> <br />NOES~ ~one <br /> <br />ABSENT: Councilman Carlson <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NS-884 DECLARING EE ANNEXATION OF TERRITORY DESIGNATED "DYER AI~D <br />GRAND NORTHWEST ANNEX" TO THE CITY OF SANTA ARIA was read by title~ <br /> <br />It was moved by CounciLman Griset~ seconded by Councilman Herrin and unanimously <br />carried~ that further reading be waived and the ordinance be passed to second <br />reading~ <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL 232 july 3~ 1967 <br /> <br /> <br />
