The Clerk reported notice of hearing published in The <br />Register June 17, with affidavit on file, and stated that a letter has been <br />received from applicant asking for a.continuance of the hearing to July 17o <br /> <br />There being no opposition to the request, on motion of Councilman Griset, <br />seconded by CounciLman Herrin and carried, the hearing on Amendment Appli- <br /> <br />cation 606 was continued to July 17o <br />SPECIAL ~.W~TION - BOND ISSUE <br /> <br />Mayor McMichael reporting for the Council <br />c~ittee appointed to study the Chamber <br />of Cozmerce request that Conncil initiate <br /> <br />a new bond issue te be placed before the v~ters to finance the Capital <br />Ymprovement Program, stated he and the ether members, COu~ci~m~u Brooks, <br />and Councilman Thurman, had been meeting with the Chamber Executive Com- <br />mittee to determine what leadership and fi~aucial support it would give <br />to the Council. <br /> <br />Bill Wenke, Vice President of the Chamber of Comerce, speaking for the <br />Committee, reported the Committee rec~ended that a bond election be held <br />this year as soon as possible for the apprcximmte sum of $25,000,000, con~ <br />tents to be the same with some revision because of pro~ects accomplished; <br />he further reported that the Santa Ann Chamber of Commerce will provide pro- <br />fessional assistance and do all that is necessary to organize, finance and <br />run the campaign. <br /> <br />Council discussed at length the pressing needs of the community -- parks, <br />storm drains, sewers, streets, etCo -~ and a bond program being the most <br />economical means of financing. Mayor NcMichael suggested an election in <br />early October~ Councilman Markel spoke in opposition to a bond election <br />at this time, although he felt a bond program was the only way to support <br />the City's needs° <br /> <br />Mrs. Janice Boer objected to the cost of a special election° <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Brooks, seconded by Ceuncilman Griset, that the <br />resolution as su~mittedby the Special C~m~ittee of the Chamber of Cc~merce <br />be accepted, and that the Ceumcil act upon their recommendations and move <br />forward on this with t he utmost expediency, with the freedem to act as required° <br />On roll call vote: <br /> <br />AYES: <br /> <br />Councilmen Herrin, Brooks, Carlson, Griset, Thurman, <br />McMichael <br /> <br />NOES: Councilma~ Markel <br /> <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />At 10:15 PoMo~ Councilman Carlson left the meeting° <br /> <br />PAPJ~ING LI2~IT ~ ~ ~ Council considered a Petition Signed by <br /> eleven property owners and businessmen <br /> on the south side of 4th between FlOwer <br />and Booth Streets, requesting one hour parking limit in that area because <br />construction workers for courthouse were parking all day° Cecil Robbins <br />explained the problem~to the Council.
