Nuclear Insurance Association of Canada. <br /> <br />Hazardous propertIes Includes radioactive, <br />toxic, or explosive properties. <br /> <br />Nuclear material means any of the <br />following materials defined in the federal <br />Atomic Energy Act or any of its <br />amendments: <br />. Source material. <br />. Special nuclellr material. <br />. By-product materilli. <br /> <br />Nuclear facility means IIny: <br />. nuclear reactor; <br />. uranium isotopes separation device or <br />equipment; <br />. special nuclear material device or <br />eql.lipment; or <br />. nuclelU waste site. <br /> <br />Nuclear filcility includes: <br />. the site on which it's located; <br />. all operations conducted on such site; Bnd <br />. all premises used for such operations. <br /> <br />NO. 293 <br /> <br />P.25/31 <br /> <br />Nuclear reactor means any devics, <br />equipment, or machine designed Or used to; <br /> <br />. sustain nuclear fission in a self-supporting <br />chain reaction; or <br /> <br />. contllin a critical mllss of fissionable <br />materilll, <br /> <br />UranIum isotopes separation device or <br />equipment means any device or equipment <br />designed or used for: <br /> <br />. separating the isotopes of uranium or <br />plutonium; <br />. processing or utilizing spent nuclear fuel; <br />or <br /> <br />. hllndling, processing, or packaging nuclear <br />waste. <br /> <br />Special nuclear material device or <br /> <br />equipment means any device or equipment <br />used for the processing, fabricating, or <br />alloying of special nuclellr material If the <br />total amount of such meterilll is lit any time <br />In the custody of any protected person at <br />the premises where the device or equipment <br />is located and is more than: <br /> <br />. 25 grams of plutonium or uranium 233, or <br />any combination of those two materials; <br />or <br /> <br />. 250 grams of uranium 235. <br /> <br />Nuclear waste site means any structure, <br />basin, excavation, premises, or placa <br />prepared or used for the storage or disposal <br />of nuclear waste. <br /> <br />Nuclear waste means eny waste material <br />that: <br /> <br />. contains by-produc:t mllterial; and <br /> <br />. results from the operlltion of any nuclear <br />reactor, or uranium isotopes separation <br />device or equipment, by any person or <br />organizlltion. <br /> <br />But we won't consider nuclear waste to <br />include tailings or wastes that result from <br />the extraction Or concentration of uranium or <br />thorium from any ore processed primarily <br />for its source material content. <br /> <br />Spent nuclear fuel means any solid or <br />liquid fuel element or cOmponent that's been <br />exposed to radiation or used In a nuclear <br />reactor. <br /> <br />~2YI:J(; <br /> <br />47150 Rev. 7-01 Printed in U.S.A. <br />IOsn" ?? nf ?A ..~+ IOs..1 1'1... s,,"¡ ~h.¡"..
